This Role
We’re seeking a Director of Architecture with a strong first principles approach to computer architecture and system design. In this role, you will lead the definition of Fathom’s architecture and collaborate closely with colleagues from other disciplines (e.g. electronics, optics) to design and build novel optoelectronic hardware for massively-parallel computing systems.
Areas of contribution:
- Lead the effort on defining system-level networks and protocols, enabling architectures for new parallel computing systems
- Work with customers and other teams to lead the definition of product specifications
- Perform analytical and simulation-based modeling of interconnect systems to evaluate performance and derive optimizations.
- Collaborate with the integrated circuit design teams to guide the trade-offs in PPA
- Assume managerial role for the architecture team, contribute to hiring of new team members, and be the technical lead for the architecture team
Requirements (necessary skills for this role):
- Masters degree in computer engineering or related field, +5 years industry experience
- Experience in defining system architectures and translating that into successful products
- Expert knowledge of large-scale parallel and distributed computing systems
- Knowledge of interconnect and networking technologies and protocols, such as ethernet, UCIe, PCIe, and CXL
- Knowledge of computer architecture and deep learning concepts, including memory and storage subsystems, as well as networking both on and off chip
- Experience with programming languages such as C/C++ and scripting languages such as Python
- Ability to quickly conduct system-level trades to guide architecture decisions
Nice-to-haves (we will prioritize candidates that also have these skills)
- PhD in computer engineering or related field
- Familiarity with digital design and understanding of the Verilog and SystemVerilog HDLs

Indicative salary range for this role: $150,000 to $250,000
