Position Description


POSITION TITLE:
Director of Plants


REPORTS TO
: Superintendent and/or Superintendent's Designee


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month employment (240 days). Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to the Administrator’s Agreement.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • College degree preferred.
  • Experience in construction processes and facility maintenance
  • Two years of managerial experience preferred.


MAJOR POLICY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the operation of Buildings and Grounds, Transportation and Custodial Services.
  • Ensure compliance with district operational regulations and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal and state regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Accountable for the administration of the fiscal budget; supplies and equipment, safety standards, recommending the hiring of custodial and maintenance personnel and supervision.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate schedules for the educational field trips.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources to recruit, interview, and hire qualified individuals for the programs.
  • Assist in the planning and organization of inservice activities.
  • Work with supervisors within each program and building administrators in coordination of work schedules, personnel issues, and programs to enhance the job performance.
  • Oversee the development of the District Calendar for educational programs, PTA meetings, special functions, and school events. This calendar is then distributed to each school for their use in informing parents of upcoming events.
  • Maintain effective communication with district administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services with the daily decisions regarding the operation of the buildings and grounds, and transportation.
  • Participate in the development and periodic reviews of pupil transportation operational rules, regulations, and procedures of the district.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications for repair, renovation and restoration of buildings & grounds for the district.
  • Assist in the development of long-range plan for maintenance and renovation of district facilities.
  • Coordinate the development of plan to address the accessibility of facilities as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Maintain an accurate district map with individual school attendance boundaries.


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in professional conferences, inservice sessions, etc. to keep abreast of current practices.
  • Operate the programs in accordance with Federal and State Department guidelines and local Board of Education regulations and policies.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • All other duties as assigned for the Superintendent or his/her designee.
