Serves as the Director of Quantitative Imaging for the Neuroscience Research Institute (NRI) and Department of Neurology. Provides leadership, coordination and expertise in state-of-the-art light microscopy and analysis techniques for investigators across the NRI and Department of Neurology at Ohio State. Works in consultation with the Director and Associate Director of the NRI to organize educational seminar/ symposia, develop educational tools, and provide consultative services on light microscopy and quantitative imaging for faculty and learners conducting research related to neurological diseases. Collaborates with researchers across the NRI and Neurology in the application, development, and dissemination of advanced imaging and analysis methods. It is anticipated that, through these collaborations, the Director will ultimately co-author peer reviewed papers and serve as a co-investigator on multiple NIH and other grants.
Specific roles include: developing novel software algorithms and tools for quantitative image analysis, customized for NRI researchers/ projects; developing unbiased automated imaging, reconstruction, and quantification methods to study cells and circuits in central nervous system tissue; establishing a cellular imaging platform in the NRI; providing NRI researchers support with advanced technologies including confocal, light sheet, and super-resolution imaging; developing pipelines that utlilize machine learning for image restoration, segmentation, and label free imaging; collaborating with NRI researchers on the quantitative imaging aspects of their projects; serving as co co-investigator or key personnel on NIH grants and grants from NPOs for projects that involve sophisticated quantitative imaging of the peripheral and/ or central nervous system
Minimum Training Required
Bachelor's or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications:
extensive experience in light microscopy imaging techniques including confocal and light-sheet.
Desired:
Track record of collaborating with principal investigators; experience in neuroscience research. Expertise in Python based analysis pipelines and tools/ libraries including TensorFLow, scikit-image and Dask, and Next Generation File Formats (NGFFs). Familiarity with acquisition packages and image visualization and analysis software such as Imaris, FIJI/ImageJ and CellProfiler. Former leadership role in Imaging Platforms/ Cores Facilities.
