ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director of Supply Chain leads all activities for sourcing, contract/pricing negotiations, supplier management and development, logistics, and inventory for the organization.

Specific responsibilities include driving strategic and tactical sourcing strategies, negotiating favorable terms and conditions with suppliers, and driving action to improve key metrics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages and leads all procurement staff.
  • Drives the strategic and tactical sourcing strategy for all commodities. Develops detailed action plans that mitigate risk and optimize total sourcing costs.
  • Negotiates favorable terms and conditions with Tier II and Tier III suppliers and service providers.
  • Collaborates with Production and Sales teams to ensure inventory levels are optimized to minimize holding costs while balancing exceptional On-Time Delivery to customers.
  • Maintains updated master data in ERP system to reflect current events in the overall supply chain/economy.
  • Owns supplier development and drives actions to improve key metrics. Establishes quarterly plans for supplier improvement and methodically tracks supplier performance.
  • Develops inventory control processes and procedures to improve material flow, layout, cost effectiveness, and accuracy.
  • Manages all responsible logistics processes and drives actions to improve service and cost.
  • Conducts frequent supplier visits/audits to ensure compliance to all company requirements.
  • Generates forward-looking material consumption reports and takes direct action to prevent shortages.
  • Assists Engineering with tooling requests/specifications/negotiations from suppliers and service providers.
  • Ensures clear and frequent communication is delivered to suppliers regarding forecasts and business conditions and turns supplier feedback into direct actions as needed.
  • Collaborates with Finance to identify excess/obsolete inventory and leads actions for disposition of this inventory.
  • Coordinates efforts to ensure inventory accuracy. Leads collective actions to improve supplier counts and labeling accuracy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college/university in Business, Operations Management, Purchasing/Procurement, or Supply Chain.
  • 7+ years’ experience in commodity sourcing, purchasing, and contract negotiations. Automotive, heavy truck/equipment, aerospace industry preferred.
  • Prior experience in discrete manufacturing a must.
  • Thorough understanding of MRP system functionality and inventory planning/control.
  • Solid background in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience with supplier development/management.
  • Working knowledge of business financials.
  • Excellent communicator – high level of emotional intelligence required.
  • Demonstrate judgement, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external Customers.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic style of leadership.
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Knowledge/experience with ISO9001/TS16949 quality certifications.
  • Very strong problem-solving capabilities. Ability to independently resolve issues.
  • Ability to create and present data for management review and decision-making.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple/conflicting priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to see ‘big picture’ and break down into tactical goals.
