The School of Engineering supports students as they pursue their engineering degrees. Each engineering department provides students the opportunity to delve into a variety of engineering specialties to prepare them to be well rounded professionals, responsible leaders and life long learners through a rigorous engineering education that is enhanced by interdisciplinary connections in arts, sciences and humanities. With a long history of interdisciplinary learning and research collaboration, the engineering departments throughout the school bring together faculty, students, alumni, staff, and guests from across the field and beyond.
What You'll Do:
The Diversity Program Administrator manages projects related to increasing the representation and inclusion of underrepresented groups in two departments in the School of Engineering. This individual assists with the Center for STEM Diversity activities, Engineering department diversity activities, working both with individual faculty members, students and with diversity committees. The individual aids faculty in grant writing and eventual implementation of education, outreach, and broadening participation projects that emphasize diversity and inclusion. The individual promotes interactions between students, faculty, staff, and administrators, coordinating across Tufts with student groups, identity-based centers, and other campus diversity resources. The individual identifies best practices, develops training opportunities and programs, and aids in tracking department progress toward diversity goals.
Writing:
Write, edit, and solicit feedback for the department diversity plans (e.g., the NSF mandated Broadening Participation in Computing plan)- Work and partner with faculty to write grant proposals to support diversity efforts
- Assist faculty in writing and implementing diversity-focused elements of a grant (e.g., outreach and education plans for NSF grants)
- Augment and maintain department web page on diversity and inclusion
Coordination:
Work with department office to develop, publicize, and implement events related to diversity and inclusion- Attend department faculty meetings
- Liaise with on-campus student groups, particularly groups associated with the departments’ discipline
- Connect departments to Tufts organizations with resources for supporting a diverse community, such as the Center for STEM Diversity (CSD), the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT), the six Tufts Identity-based Centers, and the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO)
- Collaborate with department external advisory boards to host events and develop programs to

- Coordinate with national-level diversity efforts
- Work with Engineering masters and PhD program coordinators to push for inclusion at all levels.
- Coordinate and participate in events and activities for students and the Center for STEM Diversity
Training:
- Select and implement training for faculty, staff, and TAs on best practices for diversity and inclusion
- Explore and share recent research in the area of diversity in education with faculty (acting as a bridge between what the Learning Sciences community already knows and what we do in the classroom and in informal learning)
Assessment:
Develop data-driven goals and metrics- Track departmental progress towards achieving those goals
What We're Looking For:
Basic Requirements
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through a completion of a bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of related experience OR Master’s degree and 1-2 years related experience.- Prior experience with diversity and inclusion programs
- Position requires strong communication skills
