DSHS SCC Religious Coordinator
In this role, you will minister to the religious needs of people of all faiths. You will provide and coordinate optional religious services for up to 130-150 residents that include preparing services, administering sacraments, and conducting special services on religious holidays and special occasions. Gatherings are conducted with each person or in small groups.
DSHS's Special Commitment Center (SCC) is seeking a pastor or chaplain to be our Religious Coordinator that will manage spiritual services and programs for residents. SCC is a highly structured and secure treatment setting located on McNeil Island in the beautiful Puget Sound. Our program treats people who are detained and/or civilly committed and assists them in addressing their sexual offending and individual treatment needs.
Some of what you will do
Participate in the treatment team meetings for residents, and provides feedback to the clinical staff and residential staff for consistent individualized treatment plans- Correspond with resident family members, and friends of residents on religious matters; works closely with professional staff for purposes of treatment
- Coordinate volunteers of various faiths/groups to assist in delivering worship
- Explain and interpret the SCC religious program and treatment programs to the community
- Coordinate various group meetings/gatherings that include volunteers and client population
- Conduct funeral or memorial services for deceased residents for the SCC
- Communicate, verbally and in writing, with management, peers, clients, and the public to ensure the safety of the resident, staff, and community as required to carry out responsibilities
- Manage the SCC Chapel library and ensure appropriate religious literature for residents are available
- Administer a budget and maintain account statements for program/group needs
Who should apply
- A Chaplain who is currently ordained and endorsed for chaplaincy by, and in good standing with a nationally recognized religious body;
- And, a Master's degree from a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools + current certification by the Association of Clinical Pastor Education or National Association of Catholic Chaplain;
- And, three years' experience as an ordained minister, priest, or another religious leader such as rabbi, imam, Latter Day Saint bishop, or shaman of a nationally recognized faith;
- A Coordinator who has worked or volunteered within a religious group, who can provide guidance to our population, and ensure appropriate religious literature is available for our residents, is preferred

SCC employees receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free Orca card for transportation use. Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees from the Steilacoom dock.
