The job of " Early Childhood Evaluation Bilingual Intake/Screener-District," under the general supervision of the designated Student Support Services Administrator, is done for purpose/s of providing intake, clerical, student collections database reviews and entries and screening support for the early childhood evaluation team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Communicates and interacts effectively with staff, students, families, agencies and community members
- Answers/initiates telecommunication and electronic communication systems for the purpose of taking evaluation referrals and scheduling both screening and evaluation appointments for children birth to five years of age
- Carries out telephone/in-person parent interviews/developmental screenings used to determine the need for a special education evaluation
- Evaluates situations (i.e., involving other staff, children being referred, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Schedules appointments with parents and caregivers for the purpose of developmental screenings and special education evaluations
- Maintains schedules (e.g. appointments, meetings, room schedules, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating available space
- Processes documents and materials (e.g. screens, eligibilities, schedules, agendas, mailings, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties, including the organization and filing of student records
- Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required
- Travels to preschools, homes, daycare facilities, when necessary, to complete developmental screenings and to the Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education provider location(s) to distribute or access documents and materials
- Enters student data into district's student and early childhood information systems
- Sends timely student collection and other reports, as directed, to state, local, and district offices
- Occasionally translates documents, under the direction of administrator
- Researches, identifies, and shares information regarding the district's evaluation process
- With training and supervision, demonstrates appropriate screening techniques and use of materials
- Demonstrates understanding of the distinctions between teacher/specialists and screener roles and refers questions/concerns beyond the individual screener role to the appropriate team member/administrator
- Participates as a member of the team, interacts constructively and respectfully with children, staff, parents and others
- Accurately and effectively performs routine support tasks including clerical duties and uses and/or maintains screening kit and technology systems
- Uses computers and other technology in a purposeful manner to facilitate the evaluation process
- Complies with applicable policies, procedures, rules, regulations and professional standards for the position
- Respects confidential information and the privacy of students, staff and families and abides by confidentiality requirements
- Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions and new or emergency situations
- Demonstrates continued professional growth and flexibility to meet ongoing changes
- Prompt and regular attendance
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Fluent in Spanish
- Experience Required: Prior job related experience working with families and young children, in a bilingual position
- Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills in performing bilingual interpretations, working cooperatively and effectively with people and meeting the public tactfully and courteously. Ability to operate standard office equipment including telecommunication equipment, basic computer, and basic computer applications including databases. Ability to use English and Spanish in both written and verbal form, and use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Knowledge of rules and regulations related to assigned functions and effective recordkeeping and organizational strategies. Ability to sit for prolonged periods, work independently, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, ask questions and listen attentively to parent/child responses. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, near acuity/visual accommodation, and lifting/carrying babies and children up to five years of age. Willing and able to learn district and state regulations with regard to Child Find for early childhood (birth to five years of age)
- Has a vehicle available and appropriate licensure to drive during the work day for purposes noted above
- Education Required: Two years of education beyond high school
- Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Applications must be submitted to Frontline Recruiting and Hiring by the closing date in order to be considered for the position. All employees hired by the District into a position not requiring licensure must be fingerprinted and have a criminal history check completed. The cost is $71.50 and is the responsibility of the employee. This employment is considered probationary pending return of the criminal records check from the FBI and Oregon State Police through the Oregon Department of Education.
