Job Description:
“This position qualifies to receive clinical licensing level supervision at no cost for LPCa or LMSW to LCSW candidates
I. Job Purpose
The Trauma Therapist is responsible for providing services to families referred and enrolled in the MHMR Safe Babies program, a collaboration between MHMR and 1st 3 Years.
· Primary responsibilities include counseling, parent education and supporting through real time coaching the parent-child relationship within the routines and activities occurring in the family’s natural environment during the period of monitored return and/or during supervised or parenting time sessions. Eligibility for Safe Babies is biological parents with very young children ages birth to 2 years who are involved with the child welfare system in Tarrant County. Some of the evidenced based practices implemented by the therapist include Circle of Security Parenting, Nurturing Parent Program and Trust Based Relationship Intervention (TBRI). Coaching is the primary teaching/interacting style. Observation and demonstration strategies during routines and activities are utilized by the therapist to assist the parent/caregiver in actualizing possible ideas and practicing new strategies. Feedback from the therapist promotes parental growth and learning; and through increased capacity the child’s distress and dysregulation is reduced, the child’s needs for attachment are met, the parent-child relationship experiences an increase in mutual satisfaction and the child is safe from abuse and neglect.
· The Trauma Therapist participates and contributes to regular cross agency teaming meetings with CASA, OCOK, ECI, MDT/CJ, HIP, attorney, DFPS and the Safe Babies Coordinator
· The Trauma Therapist uses a strength-based lens at all times when working with families.
· The Therapist ensures that all children and families are served according to their plan of care timely, appropriately and in keeping with the family’s procedural safeguards, rights and needs.
** Primary county is Tarrant and on occasion must be able to serve contiguous counties if needed. **
II. Essential Functions
A. For birth to 2 years, provides routines-based counseling/social emotional
support/behavior services in the child’s natural environment, home or community setting.
B. Communicates and collaborates effectively on an ongoing basis, and with parent/ guardian consent, with other community entities in order to provide effective support.
C. Attends and effectively participates in team meetings when indicated.
D. Believes in and practices coparenting and fostering relationships models.
E. Embraces fostering a secure attachment between the parent and child.
F. Uses a coaching (reflective) adult interaction style with family members to instruct and implement interventions and strategies, with emphasis on demonstrations and return demonstrations along with creating “felt safety”.
G. Applies knowledge of Maslow’s hierarchy in work with families.
H. Teaches, supports and coaches using the evidenced based practices identified

J. Practice and document the research-based characteristics of coaching

K. Conducts developmental screenings, perinatal mood and anxiety screenings, routines-based interviews/assessments and pre and post surveys with families for the identified child.
L. Makes appropriate referrals when indicated.
M. Maintains and submits required documentation daily. Uses collaborative documentation except when not possible.
N. Manages individual caseload in a manner that supports all families enrolled in the program receiving quality services in a timely manner.

V. Travel
This position requires daily local travel in personal vehicle, often in difficult driving conditions and/or situations. Sometimes outside of Tarrant County.

VII. Minimum Qualifications
A. Minimum Education: Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Psychology LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LPC-I, LMSW, LMFT-A in related behavioral science from an accredited college/university and current Texas Licensure in applicable field.

VIII. Agency Requirements
· All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.
· This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.
· Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.
· The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.
· All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.
· Prior approval from supervisor is required for all Paid Time Off (PTO) and Overtime.
· MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.
· Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.
· Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.
