Education Director Job at Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians
JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Tribal Administrator the Education Director is responsible for managing the department and carrying out the objectives of the department including supervising staff, develop and manage budgets, sets goals and objectives and develops curriculum by the administrator. The Education Director plans, coordinates and supervises Tribal K-12 student tutoring, student scholarship programs, vocational programs and related activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Works as an active member of the tutoring staff
2. Oversees the Coyote Valley Boys & Girls Club
3. Coordinates with the college(s) regarding the Pomo Pathways Program
4. Prepares and monitors related program budgets
5. Manages the departments purchasing process
6. Manages Federal and State grants
7. Assists with the development and writing of education department grants
8. Develop conversional and alternative education funding sources
9. Coordinate students learning objectives with outside academic and vocational programs
10. Implement calendar and plan for local school’s liaison or case carrier student support
11. Coordinates and attends all monthly Parent Advisory Committee Meetings
12. Provides department related reporting data to the tribe’s fiscal departments
13. Communicate student academic needs to parent(s) or guardian(s)
14. Work with parent(s) to determine how to best help the students succeed academically
15. Develop, implement and revise learning curriculum as needed
16. Supervise department staff as define in the approved organization chart
17. Develop and manage snack and meal menu plan emphasis on healthy food choice nutritional guidelines
18. Conduct annual staff evaluations
19. Conducts regular staff meetings
20. Work closely with local public and charter schools developing student learning objectives
21. Work closely with local public and charter schools developing student assessment programs
22. Work closely with the other education department staff
23. Coordinates activities with the other education department staff
24. Develops annual vocation education curriculum and plan
25. Identify and promote values and behaviors that positively impact learning styles
26. Process vocational and higher education scholarship requests per tribal policies and procedures
27. Perform additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree with an accredited teaching credential
2. Five years of experience working for high school or higher education level
3. Have good interpersonal skills
4. Must have good conflict resolution skills
5. Have a neat and clean personal appearance
6. Ability to intervene on inappropriate behaviors in an assertive and positive manner
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to concentrate on work in an environment that may be noisy or intense.
2. Can demonstrate effective and diplomatic inter personal and communication skills, which includes contact with staff, tribal members, students, parents, and other federal, state and local regulatory officials.
3. Must demonstrate experience performing within specific deadlines or under pressure.
4. Must demonstrate the experience, education and training that indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, or a willingness to receive training towards these abilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
REASONING ABILITY
1. Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the children and other employees.
2. Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
