Typical Working Schedule
Typical hours are 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM Monday through Friday with additional availability necessary dependent on fluctuations in support demand throughout the academic year and support needs outside of standard hours.
Position Summary
Collaborates with faculty/staff, departments, programs, and work units to recommend methods of applying learning technologies to enhance instruction and improve learner success. Applies knowledge of instructional design and broader organizational technology ecosystem in recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Performs site administrator duties for the campus learning management system and digital learning environment (e.g., Canvas, Kaltura Media Space, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.)
- Provides individual or group support and training on supported learning technologies to achieve desired pedagogical outcomes and/or business needs
- Advocates for instructional best practices to promote responsible and effective use of supported learning technologies
- Establishes and maintains internal and external partnerships to foster positive teaching and learning experiences for instructors, staff, students, and other learners
- Participates in educational technology communities within UW System, state, and national levels
- Collects feedback about supported learning technologies, both formally and informally
- Serves as an initial point of contact to internal stakeholders regarding instructional technology by answering questions and disseminating information to appropriate entities as needed
- Performs advanced-tier support triage for questions about supported teaching and learning technologies
- Provides daily direct support to users, resolving issues assigned to the Teaching and Learning Technologies Department in the issue tracking system within Service Level Agreement and Operational Level Agreement as defined by leadership. Supported tools include, but are not limited to:
- Learning Management System and integrations (Canvas)
- Screen Recording Software (Camtasia, Kaltura Capture)
- Media Hosting and Delivery Services (Kaltura Management Console, Kaltura Media Space)
- Collaborative Learning Spaces (Google Apps, Office365)
- Student Response Systems (iClickers)
- Electronic Test Scanning (OpScan / Pearson’s Exam II)
- Plagiarism Detection System (Turnitin)
- Remote proctoring tools (e.g., Respondus Lockdown Browser)
- Web conferencing tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx)
- Provides daily direct support to users, resolving issues assigned to the Teaching and Learning Technologies Department in the issue tracking system within Service Level Agreement and Operational Level Agreement as defined by leadership. Supported tools include, but are not limited to:
- Develops documentation about supported technologies as needed
- Researches and tests new and emerging technologies and integrations to understand capabilities and efficacy
- Coordinates and facilitates presentations and group training events as needed
- Serves as a subject matter expert, contributes to projects, requests for proposal efforts, and workgroups
- Creates and provides recurring and ad hoc support service, technology usage, and site administrator reports to leadership
- Performs other related duties as directed
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in learning or instructional technologies, instructional design, education, technology or related field.
- Experience supporting instructors in areas of learning or instructional technologies, and/or instructional design using technology.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in employing and supporting learning technologies (e.g., software applications, online courses, operating systems, and hardware) in an education setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interpret and explain information to a variety of persons and groups verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently to achieve university goals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability to adhere to policies, procedures, processes, and codes of conduct.
- Attention to detail in work tasks.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Master’s degree.
- Experience as a site administrator for learning management system/digital learning environment.
- Teaching or training experience within higher education.
- Experience supporting hybrid instructional delivery modes.
- Knowledge and understanding of research and literature in the fields of:
- instructional and learning technology
- faculty development
- instructional design
- learning theories
- student assessment
