Emergency Medical Responder (EMR - First Responder) is a part-time position paid an hourly wage while responding to calls. Candidates will work within the State of Wisconsin Scope of Practice for the EMR or higher, and the County Ambulance Service Administrative and Operational Manual. Physical demands of this position are high so pretesting will be done. Preferred applicants would have a minimum of an EMR License, with a good driving record. Two years of related work experience in EMS a plus.Position is paid an hourly rate of $12 (increasing to $13 – 1/1/22) when working on a call. Paid ongoing training. PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, AND AUTHORITIES: A. Patient careB. Safety en route and while on scenes.C. Customer Service.D. Patient privacy/follow all applicable HIPPA laws and regulations.E. Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Ambulance Service Tasks: as outlined in the Medical Guidelines, Employee Handbook (A&O) and organizational policy and procedures of Rusk County and the Ambulance Service.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work independently with little direct supervision using time management skills.Competency with Microsoft products, WARDS, and other windows and web based application. Works well under pressure. With excellent customer service skills. Ability to perform all skills listed on EMR Scope of PracticeJOB RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to: Squad Leader/Ambulance DirectorInteractions: Emergency Services, Hospital nursing and support staff, Police and Sheriffs Departments, Rescue Squads, and other emergency response personnel, members of the public, and or Rusk County staff. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: Sustained physical effort, standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, lifting, walking, pushing, pulling and climbing. Must be able to perform the following essential functions of the job and have the ability to lift without assistance or have mutual aid available to assist with lifts.A. Lift and carry medical equipment as necessary to deliver emergency care to patients.B. Lift and carry ill and/or injured patients as well as pushing and pulling of stretcher.C. Climbing stairs or terrain in order to access patients, and to remove them from location found.D. Must be able to provide care to patients using all equipment provided by Ambulance Service. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB: Outlined in the A & O MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: Requires continuous mental effort for decision-making and problem solving in patient care situations. Ability to work under pressure, and show leadership skills.Need to perform at independent level within parameters of established policies and procedures. Accepts responsibility for timely completion of work tasks, reports, and cleanliness.High understanding of potential liability concerns for patient care errors, and Quality Control/Improvement process.Ability to interact with the public and co-workers under circumstances that require the application of specific knowledge, tact, diplomacy and sound judgment.
