Job Overview:

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday from 900pm - 5:00pm
  • Location: Onsite in the Lower East Side
  • Pay: $50,000 annual salary

Job Summary:

The employment coordinator is an integral part of the the transitional services team of our Urban Family Center. As employment coordinator, you will work closely with program leadership and the social services team to support residents in preparing for job search, and finding employment.

Essential Skills:

  • Highschool Diploma and 5 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience
  • Background in developing and implementing education and employment programming/curriculum
  • Strong engagement and interpersonal skills; Strong computer skills, including experience working with Microsoft Office, internet applications and database navigation; Excellent writing and organizational skills; Strong communication skills including delivery of group workshops and conducting individual work with clients
  • Assist others to develop skills to gain employment to obtain affordable housing, and independence

In this role you would:

  • Recruit and engage new clients in pre-employment process
  • Assist employed clients with job skills and track retention
  • Assist employed clients with creating career advancement track and goal-setting
  • Continue to engage with employed clients after they leave shelter
  • Conduct monthly pre-employment workshops, facilitate online job search and lead quarterly life skills workshops
  • Recruit and provide task supervision for student interns
  • Document all client encounters (individual and group) in Awards
  • Responsible for compiling and distributing T&SH Employment Dashboard monthly
  • Responsible for submitting statistical data to funders monthly
  • Oversee outreach and scheduling of clients needing financial counseling & budget assistance, including running credit reports, preparing simple budgets, referring to OFE and assisting with making initial appointment
  • Support residents in increasing their ability to navigate the internet, and utilize computer programs ( Microsoft Office package Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook, Publisher, QuickBooks Google Suites )
  • Provide guidance and assistance with completing/ submitting applications that supports client’s independent living plan included but not limited to completing employment, housing, HRA, and
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

A day in the role looks like:

  • Meeting with individuals to assess their employment readiness and technology proficient
  • Network with potential external employers and follow up on linking appropriate clients to those employers
  • Supporting interview readiness (housing, employment) by conducting workshops and 1:1 sessions
