Purpose and Functions: The Employment Navigator regularly meets with Family Empowerment clients to assist them in their search for employment by assessing their abilities, helping them create resumes, and providing career resources. The Employment Navigator will organize and attend hiring fairs to build connections with local employers, coordinate client care with staff from partner agencies, keep accurate case notes, session notes, and client goals for clients receiving assistance and enter all data into Salesforce, per the requirements of the DHS/United Way grants.

General Responsibilities:

  • Daily/Monthly Metrics:
  • Successfully connect clients with employment and log employment placements within Salesforce. Work with all clients seeking employment or desiring to increase employment income.
  • Hold 15-20 sessions per week, attempting to meet monthly with all interested clients, and weekly with clients with no-income, logging all sessions and communication with families in Salesforce.
  • Work with coaches from multiple organizations to coordinate and align client care, following up with all clients with employment needs within 48 hours.
  • Host at least one event per month and log attendance in Salesforce; events can include employment classes (resume writing, job searching strategies and interview skills) or career fairs at locations accessible to clients in the program.
  • Maintains weekly office hours that are convenient to clients (at least four hours per week per site) at THE FAMILY COLLECTIVE sites including Fannie Battle Day Home, Martha O’Bryan Family Resource Center, McGruder Family Resource Center, McNeilly Center for Children, The Salvation Army Family Resource Center, and St. Mary Villa.
  • Comply with grant requirements and funder expectations to collect accurate eligibility information, complete paperwork, monitor compliance with rules and regulations, ensure data and reports are accurate, and deadlines are accomplished.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Assist participants in assessing their skills, abilities, and interests, and guide them in developing employment and career goals; set goals for all families seeking employment and log goals in Salesforce. All clients seeking employment or an increase in employment income should have at least one employment goal.
  • Coach clients through the job readiness process: creating a resume, assess interests and/or skills, job search, filling out applications, interview preparation. Move clients through job readiness process within 2-4 weeks. Networking/Navigation:
  • Collaborate with employers to identify local job opportunities; log leads and communication with employers in Salesforce. Meet with 5-10 potential employers per month, logging employers in Salesforce as leads, and using “log a call” to track visits; convert 3-5 leads into new employers per month (one or more employment placements for clients).
  • Advise participants on training options to secure immediate employment and collaborate to identify long-term growth opportunities through advanced training, higher education, certificate programs and/or professional/trade certification(s).
  • Develop innovative solutions to common barriers to employment such as connecting to childcare and transportation services.
  • Bi-weekly or monthly meetings with education and employment partners to get industry specific feedback, build rapport, plan for education / workforce events, troubleshoot and check in on client progress or barriers.
  • Participate in the Nashville Workforce Network to build relationships with potential Workforce Partners in Davidson County.
  • Negotiate, with the support of UWMN, formal partnerships with Workforce Essentials, Goodwill, Nashville State, ApprenTI, and Tennessee Reconnect that are mutually beneficial, including: o Referral to and from o Financial support for trainings, workshops and job fairs o Co-coordination of job fairs
  • Participate in staff meetings and training that enhance ability to perform duties and provide professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience required. Workforce Development certification a plus.
  • At least two (2) years relevant experience in a workforce development, human resources, /or job readiness program preferred (i.e. case management, tracking outcomes, managing reports and deadlines, supervising staff, or other operational responsibilities).
  • Passion for providing human services that help individuals secure employment.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and rapid response service delivery.
  • Familiarity with the Nashville community resources available to vulnerable populations preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, low-income and those with multiple barriers to employment preferred.
  • Experience with mediation or counseling a plus.
  • Experience with managing a geographically large territory, developing goals and a project plans, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and tracking and reporting program progress preferred.
  • Willingness to local travel up to 50 percent of the time - a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local labor market, programs and information regarding local training institutions, community and human services agencies & resources are essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills are required. Communication skills to include the ability to work with individual & group presentations, conflict management, and counseling.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction as well as collaboratively.
  • Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and web-based assessment programs, e.g. Salesforce, SPARQ).
  • Competency in conducting basic skills assessments and competency in appropriately interpreting results are required.
  • Must have the ability to handle a diverse, demanding client base in order to provide quality services and reach goals in a fast paced, highly accountable team environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills toward, clients, co-workers, and partners are essential.
  • The Family Resource Specialist will nurture and build client relationships in order to achieve positive family motivation.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work: This is a salary, full time position based on a 37.5-hour workweek. Hours of work are 8:00am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. This position requires the flexibility to modify work 4 schedule to accommodate the client’s needs and to provide after-hours programs if needed. This modification of schedule includes working varied shifts, evenings and weekends as necessary.
