JOB
This is specialized technical work in an employment security program.Employees in this class perform responsible work in a specialized employment security activity such as employer relations and placement interviewing. Work follows standard interviewing techniques in determining the occupational skills of job applicants and in obtaining factual information. Employee take job orders from employers refer applicants to job openings and furnish applicants and employers with employment information. Standard occupational guides are used in classifying positions, and recommendations are ordinarily reviewed by a superior for conformance with established procedures.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Visits employers to solicit job orders and takes job orders over the telephone. Determines nature of job and assigns appropriate codes from Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Manual.Administers aptitude tests to applicants to aid in classification and referral to job or training .Informs new clients of services available in local office and assists clients to make a choice as to type of service.Provides clients with information on various support services available and discusses their need for them.Contacts various agencies/institutions which provide support services and arranges for provision of services to clients or assists clients in presenting their need for services.Interviews applicants to determine skills, past experience, etc., and assigns appropriate DOT Codes; searches job--order files to locate appropriate orders and refers applicants to employers.Provides clients with current Labor Market Information including information on micro fiche viewers to facilitate their job search.Contacts clients by phone or personal visit to determine progress in job or training program and takes necessary follow--up action. May mediate problems which have arisen between client and supervisor/instructor.Contacts persons who have dropped out of program: may attempt to get clients to return to office for further service or refer them to an agency better able to serve their needs.Operates job clubs to teach job--finding skills to applicants.Performs related work as required.

Skill in motivating clients to persist in their efforts to improve their employability and find a satisfying job. Skill in obtaining information from clients concerning employment--related abilities and needs, and conveying information on available job training and support services.Knowledge of environmental and cultural factors influencing the behavior of disadvantaged persons in training and work situations.Knowledge of community organizations and human service agencies.Ability to understand clients' problems and needs from the clients' point of view.Ability to conduct an effective interview.Knowledge of job training programs, services, and resources.
