English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher Grades K-2 Job at SABIS Educational Systems, Inc.
General Summary: The English Language Learner (ELL) teacher provides English language development instruction to children who are acquiring English as an additional language, working collaboratively with other instructional personnel, including a district-wide team of ELL teachers, to meet the individual needs of each child. Required activities include planning and delivering lessons, collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists, administering formative and summative assessments, completing documentation required for compliance, and attending district ELL meetings and professional development.Essential Functions: 1.Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory. 2.Demonstrates knowledge of second language learning patterns and best practices in English language development. 3.Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary in evaluating individual learning styles and needs, which results in planning for an appropriate course of study for individual students.
4.Plans and delivers lessons in English language development. 5.Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of ELLs across content areas. 6.Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and ensure student achievement. 7.Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by the students and their families.
8.Possesses those characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for limited English speaking students within the school system. 9.Possesses the skills necessary for serving as a liaison between the school and the home. 10.Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers, administration and families. 11.
Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code and appropriate instructional subjects12.Possesses and utilizes those personal skills necessary for the improvement of student attitudes toward learning and school. 13.Completes documentation required for compliance and attends district ELL meetings and professional development offeringEducation Level: Bachelors Degree required. 1.Certification or Licensure: Valid Massachusetts Certificate. 2.Experience desired: Teaching experience preferred.
