If so, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking highly motivated and driven nuclear engineers for challenging positions in reactor design and operation.

Entry level positions are currently available for a nuclear engineer in one of several New Design units providing nuclear design and analysis support for the design, analysis, and deployment of current and future core designs. This work includes calculation of nuclear design products in support of various reactor performance analyses, balance of plant interface organizations, and the construction/manufacture of reactor cores. These organizations also drive the development of new tools and procedures through a close relationship with analysis and methods development groups in order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the core design work.

Specific work areas include:

  • Planning and executing (modeling, analyzing, and documenting) nuclear analyses (Monte Carlo, Diffusion Theory, and Deterministic Transport) and making engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks,
  • Developing state-of-the-art nuclear and thermal hydraulics models,
  • Developing technical recommendations/reports often requiring interfacing with stakeholder organizations across multiple technical disciplines,
  • Working with new codes and procedures to improve the state of the art in core design and analysis,
  • Working on diverse assignments that support career growth.



Job Requirements:


Associate:

  • BS degree in Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear Certificate from an accredited college or university.

Intermediate:

  • BS degree in Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear Certificate from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear Certificate from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or
