Environmental Engineer

The Environmental Engineer position is responsible for performing assigned environmental responsibilities for the purpose of ensuring the chemical manufacturing plant is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, rules, and permit requirements. The position has ownership for understanding one or more bodies of environmental regulations and related compliance activities, and assigned environmental tasks, programs, processes, or systems. As an Environmental Engineer, this position plays key role in regulatory interpretation and compliance functions at the plant.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Performs assigned air, water and waste environmental tasks.
- Prepares applications, obtains, maintains, modifies, and manages day-to-day compliance programs for air, water, and/or waste permits and rules as assigned.
- Performs complex environmental assignments and has ownership of some significant environmental functions and/or programs at the site.
- Interprets federal, state, and local rules and their interrelationships to the plant.
- Performs emissions calculations for tanks, cooling towers, emissions events, emissions inventory, TRI inventory, and permit compliance, etc.
- Participates in spill, release, and emissions event/incident investigations as assigned.
- Participates in agency inspections/investigations/audits and assists with preparing responses as assigned.
- Occasionally leads teams and other environmental professionals as assigned.
- Responds to after hours and weekend refinery incidents even when not on-call.
- Responsible for any environmental tasks that may be assigned to manage environmental department workload and site environmental compliance.
- May function as an environmental representative to a unit(s).
- Perform routine on-site internal audits/inspections and lead resolutions for any deviations discovered.
- Responsible for review/approval of Management of Change (MOC) tasks in areas assigned.
- Performs assigned environmental responsibilities with minimal or no supervision.
- Have experience with Federal and Louisiana air rules and regulations.
- Have experience with notification to agencies, e.g., NRC, LEPC notifications.
- Reviews/approves/completes MOCs as environmental representative to assigned unit, area, or asset team.
- Reviews/approves/completes incidents as assigned.
- Prepares/completes all tasks or reports for which he/she is responsible.
- Supervise/manage environmental consultants or contractors as assigned.
Min. Qualifications * Minimum BS or advanced degree in Engineering or Science
- Minimum of 5-10+ years environmental experience
- Must have good interpersonal skills; work well with others
- Must have good verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Must have good time management and organizational skills
- Must be a quicker learner, self-motivated, and dependable
- Must be detailed and results oriented and a problem solver
- Must be proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint (e.g., Office365)
- General/Working knowledge of MOC, SAP, IMPACT/INTELEX, EDMS, LIMS, IP21 (or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of Federal and Louisiana air rules/regulations (required)
- Working knowledge of environmental labs and analytical reports
- General knowledge of emergency responsePreferred Qualifications

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
