      Position Summary
      One temporary hourly-intermittent Bridge Student Assistant position in the Educational Opportunity Program.
      Start Date
      Position available on or after June 1, 2023 and ending on or before August 31, 2023. Possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.


      Job Description/Duties

      Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Serve on the Peer Mentor program leadership team.
      • Provide guidance and support to new and returning Peer Mentors.
      • Assist with developing programming and activities for the Peer Mentor program.
      • Assist with facilitating meetings and trainings, adding and revising mentor resources.
      • Assist with program reports, surveys and other special tasks.
      • Assist with creating content and maintaining EOP Instagram and Pinterest accounts.
      • Assist with drafting program communications and sharing appropriate information with program staff and mentors.
      • Relay any concerns about students to the appropriate individual(s).
      • Serve as a positive role model to guide, support, and empower EOP students throughout their first academic year as they begin their academic and social adjustment to Stan State.
      • Meet with assigned mentees individually or in groups on a regular basis.
      • Maintain regular contact with mentees through Stan State email and monitor their progress.
      • Educate mentees about and refer to campus services and resources.
      • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all assigned mentees.
      • Assist mentees with developing student success strategies such as effective time management, studying, note-taking, test-taking, critical thinking, listening, reading, communication, stress management balancing work and school and other life skills.
      • Assist mentees with personal situations by listening, offering advice and referring to appropriate program staff and/or campus departments as appropriate.
      • Assist with coordinating, promoting, and facilitating EOP events.
      • Participate in weekly staff meetings, regular trainings, and activities as directed.
      • Assist with planning and facilitating Summer Bridge mentor activities.
      • Assist with planning and facilitating mentor activities for MDIS 1040 First Year Experience course as assigned.
      • Serve as EOP representative at University events as needed.
      • Collaborate with EOP program staff and mentors.
      • Complete administrative tasks such as tracking/reporting mentee information, complete appropriate forms and logs.
      • Abide by and enforce all program and University policies and procedures.
      • Participate in and complete other tasks as assigned by the EOP Peer Mentor Program Lead Advisor.

      Other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Demonstrates enrollment as an EOP student with at least 45 completed units and be willing to commit to employment through May 2024.
      • Demonstrates 2 semesters of mentoring or relevant experience (on or off campus) by the end of the Spring 2023 semester.
      • Demonstrates and maintains a minimum grade point average of 3.0 throughout employment.
      • Demonstrates availability on the following days: Tuesdays 2:30 – 3:20p.m. during the fall and spring semesters and maintain a flexible schedule Monday – Friday 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.
      • Demonstrates the availability to work the following dates: June 1 – June 17, 2023 and August 3 – August 18, 2023 (cannot be enrolled in Stan State summer classes during these dates).
      • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills for contacting students, faculty, staff, making phone calls, and completing necessary documentation.
      • Demonstrates the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
      • Demonstrates the willingness to serve as an enthusiastic/positive representative of the EOP program at all times.
      • Possesses a desire to help others while maintaining a non-judgmental attitude.
      • Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
      • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Demonstrates the ability to work occasional nights and weekends for special events.
      • Demonstrates above-average creative problem- solving, critical thinking, patience, leadership, team-building and decision-making skills.
      • Demonstrates the capability to be reliable, display good interpersonal skills, and be able to make sound judgments.
      • Demonstrates self-motivation, a willingness to accept supervision and constructive feedback, and the ability to implement recommendations for improvement as directed.

      Required Qualifications:
      • Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.
      • Post-baccalaureate students in a graduate program must be registered in a minimum of four (4) Fall/Spring units.

      Special Conditions

      Salary Range

      $16.50 per hour
