Description

Location: 301 East State Farm Road in North Platte, Nebraska

Examples of Work

Supervise the development, operation and maintenance of assigned wildlife management areas by complying with state noxious week and boundary fence laws, assuring reasonable public access, managing vegetation for resources and recreation, and assessing wildlife population status and efficacy of habitat management practices.

Supervise assigned biologists and support staff. Develop annual and five-year district budget for operation and maintenance of areas and equipment. Assist with regulation recommendations and changes and manage special public hunts. Develop reports and maintain records necessary for compliance with federal aid guidelines and federal farm program requirements.

Respond to wildlife disease incidences and prepare reports on such incidents. Represent the Agency’s interest on local or regional boards and committees. Develop and coordinate wildlife and public use surveys. Respond to wildlife depredation and nuisance complaints and provide technical assistance. Perform related work as required.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND four years’ experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND two years’ experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles including wetland management, goals and objectives; wildlife species; life history and habitat needs; research, statistics, budgeting processes and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to wildlife as well as a working knowledge of current management philosophies, such as the conservation of biological diversity; landscape ecology and adaptive management.

Ability to communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and maintain equipment and power tools including chain saws, ATV’s, UTV’s tractors, skid loaders and trucks; work with little supervision; supervise and direct the work of others and develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics.
