This position exists in the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake CSD and involves the responsibility for planning, scheduling, supervising, participating in,
and inspecting the work of departmental employees engaged in the operations, maintenance, repair, and safeguarding of the facility. The incumbent is responsible for assuring compliance with New York State Education Department rules and regulations. Responsibilities also include working closely with the Director of Facilities and the Custodial Supervisor on building and equipment renovations and capital improvement projects for the school district. The work includes performing computation and inspection tasks associated with a variety of facilities projects. The work is performed under the direction of the Director of Facilities with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in managing the departments. The incumbent exercises technical supervision over a variety of staff assigned to a specific project. The incumbent performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
? Supervises the work of maintenance and groundskeeping staff;
? Maintains an environment that is sanitary, safe, secure, and attractive;
? Assists in the maintenance and operation of building control and emergency
management systems;
? Performs a variety of safety inspections-Building Code and fire drills/inspections;
? Plans, organizes, and controls facility maintenance and housekeeping operations;
? Involved in environmental rounds to ensure the facility's operational standards are
satisfactory;
? Manages and assures compliance with NYS DOH laws, rules, regulations and
guidelines;
? Reviews, evaluates, updates, and trains staff on policies and procedures;
? Prepares and maintains a variety of related reports and records;
? Plans and estimates cost for maintenance, cleaning, groundskeeping, and renovation
operations and projects;
? Assists the Administrator in the preparation of operating budgets and requisitions for
maintenance and cleaning equipment and supplies;
? Assists the Buildings and Grounds team in the preparation and renovation of plans,
specifications and designs of facilities engineering projects including mechanical,
electrical, and structural systems;
? Assists in inspecting the work of private contractors whose services have been
acquired for the performance of the construction portion of district projects
? Participates in field surveys, inspections, and data collection for the purpose of
collecting information to serve as a basis for the preparation of estimates, plans and
specifications for district projects;
? Remains on call for maintenance emergencies;
? Performs a variety of related tasks as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Thorough knowledge of school district maintenance and cleaning practices, tool and equipment usage, terminology, and safety precautions; thorough
knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of mechanical, electrical, and construction
technology; Working knowledge of construction specifications and their application to public
works construction; ability to carry out technical oral and written instructions; ability to plan and
supervise the work of others; mechanical aptitude.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college with an
Associate's degree in Construction, Mechanical or Electrical Technology or a related
field and four (4) years of maintenance experience in a school facility, two (2) years
of which must have been in a position with management responsibilities and
supervision of staff; OR
(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and
eight (8) years of experience as defined by the limits of (A) above, two (2) years of
which must have been in a position with management responsibilities and
supervision of staff; OR
(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A)
and (B) above.
