Required Experience:

Previous experience in power plant operation and maintenance.

Required Education:

High school or equivalent plus one-year course in mechanics and electricity.

Position Summary:

Manages and directs the programs involving the operation and maintenance of the buildings, equipment, grounds, electrical and mechanical systems

Essential Function:

• Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct department functions and activities to achieve objectives and comply with regulatory requirements.
• Establish, implement, and update policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for department operation.
• Prepares, monitors, and adjusts annual departmental operating and capital budget in conjunction with administration to assure cost effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and supplies while maintaining quality patient care
• Review department performance, effect changes as needed to improve services, simplify workflow, and assure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Attend department manager's meetings as scheduled. Attends and serves on hospital committees and serve as a consultant to other departments as requested.
• Maintains records, reports, statistics, and budgetary information for administration and regulatory review.
• Evaluate and justify department needs and purchases. Direct and supervise maintenance of department facilities, equipment, supplies, and areas.
• Assure compliance with established standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in hospital projects and public relations programs, patient surveys, and community education as requested.
• Establishes preventive maintenance schedules.
• Schedules and expedites operations and repairs.
• Frequently performs duties of other department personnel.
• Develops and determines priorities and monitors status of special projects on an ongoing basis.
• Develops, implements, administers, and modifies programs to maintain the physical plant, grounds, and equipment of the hospital through effective utilization of personnel and materials.
• Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the functions and activities of facilities management and engineering, loss prevention management, and telecommunications.
• Inspects building and grounds to ensure conformance with established standards and regulations. Maintains compliance with Fire Marshal building codes.
• Directs and maintains plant engineering capability of the hospital. Develops systems for control and efficient, effective use of all utilities.
• Establishes preventive maintenance schedules and prioritizes repair and maintenance work to minimize disruption of hospital operations.
• Plans for and oversees major repairs, renovation, and new construction. Serves as liaison between hospital and contractor during construction cycle.
• Prepares for and plan short- and long-range facility needs.
• Takes call according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours.
• Satisfactorily qualifies for the position through an Iowa Criminal History/Dependent Adult Abuse check within the limits of applicable laws.
