NEW BEDFORD, MA- Child & Family Services is looking to hire a Family Partner to support the parents of youth accessing services at our Young Adult Access Center. This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position.
The Young Adult Access Center Family Partner works as part of the Young Adult Access Center team. This individual is willing to share their lived experience as a parent/caregiver with the purpose and intent to engage and support the parents/caregivers of Youth and Young Adults (YYA) utilizing the Access Center. This individual has personal knowledge of behavioral health services in the community and developed skills of having advocated for YYA in their care and has a strong desire to work with YYA and families facing multiple challenges.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must have lived experience as an adult who is the parent/sole caregiver of a youth with significant social, emotional, behavioral health, medical or trauma related need
- Have experience navigating systems of care and/or services for youth
- Must be able to work collaboratively with a team
- Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle as frequent travel within the city is required
- Availability to work during the evening and weekend hours
Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet the agency’s needs.
- Engage the parent/caregiver of Youth and Young Adults (YYA) utilizing the Access Center in support around their changing role in the life of their child as they move into adulthood
- Assist the family in understanding the scope and services provided by the Access Center and the family's role within the program
- Teach parent/caregiver how to network/link and secure necessary community resources and treatment providers
- Maintain regular contacts with parents/caregivers and YYA at set and agreed times
- Deliver strengths-based, culturally and linguistically appropriate services
- Provide in home and in community mentoring and education to the parents/caregivers in order to enhance problem-solving, parenting effectiveness, and communication
- Be available to parents/caregivers by phone or at the family home during non-business hours as needed
- Advocate with the parent/caregiver by attending school meetings, court hearings and treatment planning meetings as requested
- Lead parent/caregiver groups twice per month

- Acknowledging that people from other cultural groups may not share the same beliefs and practices or perceive experiences in the same way
- Cultural knowledge of key populations that will be served to address disparities in service delivery
- Demonstrates positive attitudes towards cultural differences by showing respect and openness towards people whose social and cultural background is different from one's own
- Demonstrates skills for communication and interaction across cultures, including the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming climate within the agency
