HARTUNG BROTHERS, INC is a family owned and operated agribusiness. We have been developing a wide range of solutions for agriculture's producers and processors alike since 1975. Hartung Brothers offers agriculture contracts for seed corn and cucumbers to farmers and processors.

We are currently in need of a Field Representative for our southern WI location. This position is responsible for overseeing the growing area and managing several operations pertaining to seed corn production during growing season. You will work closely and in collaboration with the Seed Production Manager, Contractors, and Growers to raise a quality seed crop. Hours may vary and during busy season overtime is required, including some weekends. Cross functional training in both plant and field requirements will be provided to ensure your success.

Must be able to work in multiple environmental conditions and be on your feet for periods of time. You must be self-motivated, very detailed oriented and maintain high quality standards to meet customer needs.

PAID TRAINING is provided to ensure proper skills development and alignment for growth within the company.

Responsibilities:

Field Operations (Spring – Fall)·

  • Assist the Seed Production Manager to produce a quality product for HBI and our customers.
  • Oversee the So. WI growing area, develop relationships with growers, assist with agronomic decisions.
  • Coordinate with Detasseling Contractor and field observers to ensure proper detasseling procedures are followed and quality standards are upheld.
  • Operate detasseling equipment.
  • Maintain records and Assist growers with plantings, cultivating, detasseling, fertilizing and chemical needs.
  • Coordinate and communicate crop needs to growers and production manager.
  • Scout field crops and update reporting on crop progress in matters of seed quality, growth, weed and pest management reporting.

Harvest Operations and Seed Plant (Fall/ Winter)

  • Assist in harvest time duties which may include unloading, drying, husking, and shelling seed corn.
  • Ability to learn seed treatment area and obtain a WI State Seed Treatment License.
  • Safely operate production equipment required to complete the required process.
  • Comply with company and customer regulations and policies.
  • Cross train in all areas of the Seed Plant.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment.
  • Able to troubleshoot equipment issues and perform basic repairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 + years’ experience in fielding and scouting preferred.
  • Basic understanding of Agronomy.
  • Knowledge of corn production with emphasis on processing and quality control.
  • Working knowledge of chemicals, fertilizers, agronomic pests, and weather effects on crops.
  • Previous experience with farm equipment, including tractors and planters.
  • Proficient with office equipment (PC, iPad) and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have knowledge of health and safety standards pertaining to the agricultural infrastructure (training provided).
  • Experienced with Forklifts and farm equipment.
  • Able to travel to various field areas in southern Wisconsin (during season).
  • Experience in seed corn production is a plus.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Candidate MUST be a self-motivated and detail-oriented person with high drive to be able to focus in a high tempo environment with the ability to adapt to changing situations on a daily basis.
