(GVR) is a private, non-profit recreation organization that provides facilities and programs for the largely-retired community of Green Valley, AZ, 20 minutes south of downtown Tucson. The Green Valley community is comprised of 120+ distinct Home Owners Associations, with housing available to fit every budget. Most HOAs are age-restricted, requiring at least one owner to be age 55 or older, and prohibiting permanent residence of children. Family-friendly and fast-growing Sahuarita adjoins the Green Valley area on the north.
Among GVRs fourteen recreation centers, there are thirteen pools and spas, six fitness centers, sports courts, auditoriums, meeting rooms, and well-equipped hobby shops. About the position ~
Summary
The Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting in compiling all regular, requested, and periodic financial reports, facilitating the monthly closing of the general ledger and assisting with financial analysis, and forecasts, and assisting in Accounts Payable, Audit, Reconciliation, Risk Management, Management Reporting, and general accounting functions as needed.
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for regular financial processes, including preparing financial reports, projections, and other informational reports.
- Supporting the Finance Departments daily accounting operations (e.g., A/P, A/R, P/R, etc.)
- Perform general accounting duties related to the operations of the organization, including:
- duties related to the posting of invoices and accounts payable processing
- issuing disbursement checks
- periodic general ledger closing and maintenance of the general ledger
- cash and treasury management
- Prepare general journal entries in assigned areas to record accounting transactions.
- Assist with the annual budget process, audits, special projects, and/or financial analysis and reporting.
- Assist the CFO as staff liaison to Board Committees, as assigned.
- Prepare periodic financial and informational reports, as needed for:
- Audit Committee
- Fiscal Affairs Committee
- Investment Committee
- Capital projects
- Assist in developing and maintaining effective accounting controls and reports.
- Financial software research, implementation, and maintenance.
- Recommend improvements to and assist with the implementation of automated accounting methods, policies, systems, and procedures.
- Develop relationships to understand business drivers, share information, resolve issues and streamline and improve finance and accounting processes.
Ancillary Job Functions
- Support the CFO in the execution of responsibilities.
- Attend staff and committee meetings.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Additional requirements may be designated based on business needs.
- Bachelors degree required in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Minimum Five (5) years of accounting experience with progressive responsibilities required.
- CPA License is highly preferred or must obtain as designated by the CFO.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.

- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing principles and practices.
- Understanding of general ledger accounts, set-up, and roll-up.
- Working knowledge of principles and practices of financial administration, including financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and purchasing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to apply accounting principles and procedures to solve operational problems.
- Ability to gather, analyze, interpret and explain financial policies and procedures.
- Ability to analyze data and situations and draw sound conclusions and adopt effective solutions.
- Ability to prepare, examine, and verify financial documents and reports.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, often complex and requiring advanced computer skills.
- Ability to write basic business communications and reports.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
- Ability to work independently and apply decision-making skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
