Job Description Financial Aid Specialist October 2022 Department: Financial Aid Reports to: Vice President for Administration and Finance Contract: 12 months Salary Structure: Salary Support Schedule FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Responsibilities Assist the Financial Aid Director in administering all financial aid awards, including Federal Student Aid, institutional aid, Foundation aid, Kansas state aid, and outside scholarships. Perform additional duties as assigned after consultation with the Financial Aid Director. Minimum Qualifications · Associates Degree required. · Bachelor’s degree preferred. · Experience with financial aid preferred. · One year experience in an educational setting required, preferably at a comparable institution of higher education, is preferred. · Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and community. · Clarity of thought and expression in oral and written communication. · Time management: ability to cope with multiple interruptions and work under pressure of deadlines. · Self-motivated with a high degree of organizational skill, meticulous in detail. · Excellent office skills including computer experience necessary to complete job requirements. · Ability to learn a thorough understanding of tax returns in the context of validating student aid reports. · Must espouse a collaborative work ethic and a philosophy of higher education that is compatible with the mission of ICC. Essential Duties · Counsel students and/or parents regarding the full scope of available financial resources for attending ICC. · Process and correct financial aid documents electronically to meet federal regulations. · Verify and secure documentation for all Federal Student Aid recipients. · Package aid and process award letters for all potential students, including all possible financial aid allowed at ICC. · Assist in the process for origination and disbursements through U.S. Department of Education in line with ICC and federal requirements. · Submit documentation to the Business Office for disbursement of funds. · Monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) based on ICC policies and Federal regulations. · Verify and secure documentation for all students who are employed through the Federal Work Study and ICC Student Labor programs. · Place student employees in jobs both on and off campus, while abiding by Department of Education regulations and college procedure. · Maintain and submit payroll documentation for Federal Work Study and ICC Student Labor programs. · Calculate and certify Federal Stafford loans to meet federal regulations. · Calculate and certify Federal Parent PLUS loans to meet federal regulations. · Maintain a system of “checks and balances”. · All these, and other activities as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions · With or without assistance: ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, ability to move freely around campus and other locations. · Ability to communicate both in person and by telephone. · Ability to speak clearly. · Mental capacity to make decisions and follow through with directions. · Ability to follow safety and security practices. · Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. · Ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities. · Ability to perform keyboard functions.
