Position Responsibilities

1. Record all deposits and offerings from Sunday services and online giving in the church ACS data base to ensure all gifts and offerings are properly accounted for and credited to the individual giver. Ensure all actual cash and checks received are also correctly accounted for and deposited in the Bank of Belleville.

2. Prepare and send out quarterly giving statements to the congregation members.

3. Prepare payroll memos from timesheets and submit to the church accounting firm and distribute the resulting payroll checks/vouchers to the staff as appropriate.

4. Prepare and process weekly purchase orders for individuals and vendors and ensure the appropriate individual authorizes the purchases in accordance with established procedures. Process and distribute the resulting checks and file the documentation accordingly.

5. In preparation for the monthly Session meetings, obtain copies of the statements for the General Fund Bank Account, the Money Market Account, and the balance of the Capital Campaign Loan and the monthly financial statement from the accountant and distribute it to the appropriate Session members and staff personnel.

6. Provide financial input to the weekly bulletins, the monthly Steeple Newsletter and other church communications as required.

7. Participate in weekly staff meetings and other planning functions as necessary.

8. Carry out the responsibilities and duties of this position as agreed upon under the direction of the pastor (Head of Staff) and the Session through the Personnel Committee.

Work Experience Required

1. An active and committed disciple of Jesus Christ; a person who is comfortable operating within the theological framework and accountability structure of First United Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church (USA).

2. A person of trust and high moral character who is experienced in handling financial records of large organizations including budgets, financial statements, accounting reports, bank statements, financial ledgers and payroll procedures.

3. A person who is computer literate especially with spreadsheets, word documents, and data bases and is experienced in building and maintaining office files and records.

4. A person who understands the sensitivity of church financial proceedings and is able to maintain confidentiality and privacy of individual records.

5. A person who works well with other staff members as a team and can maintain a friendly, courteous and helpful work environment despite numerous interruptions and challenges.

6. A person who is detail-oriented and can prioritize the daily workload to ensure important activities get done correctly.

Terms of Employment

1. This is a part-time position; 20 hours per week; Monday through Thursday 11:00am to 4:00pm

2. The Financial Secretary shall meet with the Head of Staff and the Personnel Committee annually to review past accomplishments and establish future performance goals.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Common surfaces cleaned and sanitized regularly. The church follows CDC and St. Clair County Health Department guidance with regard to wearing of masks and other COVID-19 recommendations.
