Fire Alarm Inspection Helpers at Signature Systems of Florida are members of the core group that works on-site at buildings throughout the Greater Orlando Area doing the test & inspection of fire alarm systems to keep people and property safe from damaging fires. Working with others on the team, they cycle the electronic fire alarm panel through its functions and physically inspect and test the various other devices in the system such as pull stations, smoke detectors and horn strobes. This position is an excellent training ground for individuals who are interested in a career in low voltage building electronics.
Required Experience / Personal Characteristics:
- Ability to take direction in the field and occasionally work without direction
- Ability to work efficiently and be accountable for work with clear deadlines
- Ability to recognize obstacles on the job and communicate these obstacles to leadership
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Clean driving record and no criminal background
- Must have reliable transportation
- Conscientious attitude with attention to detail
- Must have passed or be able to pass FASA/BASA certification
- Physical requirements include lifting or pulling objects under 20 pounds and frequently driving, walking, standing, crouching, kneeling, climbing ladders and balancing. Good vision is also important
- Knowledge of BuildingReportsÒ software is a plus
- NICET Certification is a plus
Job Description:
- Operates electronic fire alarm control panel, activates pull stations, tests smoke detectors, observes and listens for annunciation devices such as horns, horn strobes and sirens
- Takes directions from Fire Alarm Inspection Lead on-site and quickly learns the Signature Systems procedures for fire alarm inspections
- Maintains a polite and cordial presence to all building occupants who might be present during testing
- Accurately records (in writing or using an automated tool) the operating condition of devices in the fire alarm system
- Communicates with monitoring central station to indicate when alarm is being tested and when it becomes live again
- Follows all relevant safety requirements
- This is a full-time position, which may require night and weekend work depending upon the inspection schedule agreed to by the customer
