JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for directing the operations of the Fitness Center and the ESPORTS program.
MAJOR DUTIES
Coordinates the use and scheduling of all activities in and around the Fitness Center, including the oversight of the intramural programs.
Provides oversight for operations in the Fitness Center and Jack Dobbins North buildings, which includes some services seven days a week.
Promotes all activities of the fitness center campus-wide and to the community at large, which involves developing public relations and promotional and marketing materials for various fitness center activities and programs.
Evaluates, measures, and assesses fitness training needs of students/athletes and develops exercise programs.
Provides guidance to fitness center patrons on use of fitness equipment and basic principles of physical fitness and conditioning.
Ensures that the fitness center and surrounding areas are free from health and safety hazards.
Manages the operations of NSU Club Sports, including but not limited to the ESPORTS program
Oversees and participates in the collection of center admission fees and coordinates contracts with vendors; ensures vendor compliance; schedules vendor meetings; maintains records; prepares lease renewals.
Develops and maintains budgets; prepares purchase requests; prepares budget transfers; approve requisitions.
Supervises and schedules the work of assigned full-time and student staff, processes employee payroll records, and directs the maintenance of Fitness Center files and records.
Utilizes standard office software applications to compile data and prepare reports and correspondence concerning the operation and performance of the fitness center.
Serves on campus committees as assigned.
Develops and implements staff training programs.
Performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Assistant Vice President for Auxiliary Services assigns work in terms of center goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of center activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include university policies and procedures, state purchasing regulations, building codes, OSHA rules, public swimming pool guidelines, and safety procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied management duties. The variety of functions to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to direct the operations of the Fitness Center and associated programs. Success in this position contributes to the provision of fitness programming to students, faculty and staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, kneeling, jumping, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
The work is typically performed in an office, fitness center, Jack Dobbins North fitness and in outdoor recreation areas on campus.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over the full time Fitness Center Office Manager, full time Fitness Center Program Coordinator, various part time staff, student workers (30-40) and graduate assistants as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
Three or more years of financial management experience, to include budgeting, expense management and purchasing.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three to five years of similar experience in operation of fitness/wellness center of similar size and services offered
Higher education fitness center management experience
Current American Red Cross First-Aid Certificate
Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Current lifeguard certification
Current personal trainer certification
Banner operating system preferred
