Basic Job Functions:

  • Manage railcar fleet and take ownership of portfolio
  • Maintain and coordinate with railroads & customers to include daily and weekly reporting using Microsoft Excel
  • Leverage market intelligence and commercial expertise to maximize ROA on asset base while creating a sustainable competitive advantage for Nucor
  • Continuously work with DJJ’s brokerage group to identify customers and build relationships that bring the most value to our enterprise
  • Utilize DJJ’s unique information platform to optimize railcar efficiency and profitability while mitigating risk of accessorial charges each month
  • Submit railcar diversions, follow up, maintain third party tracing software, work with railroads to fix errors
  • Negotiate with internal and external customers
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager & business unit to cover applicable business needs of department

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree and 5+ years of work experience in transportation, sales or fleet management
  • Energetic team-player, organized, adaptable to changing assignments and priorities, works well under pressure and prefers a fast-paced work environment
  • Exhibits independent thinking with resourceful problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and initiative
  • Exceptional customer service skills, able to interface effectively with company personnel, customers, and vendors
  • Attention to detail and ability to conduct data analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of technology (Microsoft Suite) as it applies to administrative tasks and willingness to learn proprietary software
  • Highly effective communication skills and ability to cultivate relationships
  • Some travel required – up to 25% in normal business conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior fleet management experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Suite skills
  • Ability to work with general direction and perform with a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience with databases, pivot tables and manipulating data
  • Logistics or Sales experience
  • Prior experience in the scrap metal/steel/rail industry
