Summary:

The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the daily operations of the food pantry
  • Sorts and stocks food items in the pantry, coolers, freezers, and warehouse
  • Inspects food items to ensure quality and freshness
  • Keeps pantry, warehouse and reception room clean and neat
  • Shops with and for guests
  • Interviews new guests and re-interviews existing guests
  • Serves as a key contact for volunteers on site to help them stay on task, feel supported, and follow pantry guidelines.
  • Assists Volunteer Coordinator and Director in scheduling and training new volunteers.
  • Responsible for assisting with data entry of guest records and visits
  • Addresses guest complaints
  • Provides reports on daily pantry activity to the Food Pantry Director

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May be responsible for one or more of the following:
  • Takes orders for Celebration Baskets and supports volunteers making the baskets
  • Distributes and tracks CSFP boxes to eligible guests
  • Prepares delivery orders for homebound guests
  • Distributes food at offsite locations
  • Organizes TEFAP signatures
  • Coordinates and organizes distribution of toiletries and personal care distributions
  • Creates and finds community resources to share with pantry guests
  • Demonstrates teamwork and support of the JFS mission and values
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
  • Complies with all company policies and standards

Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or GED

Work Experience: One year of experience in program management preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to prioritize daily work assignments
  • Ability to communicate information calmly in a high-stress situation
  • Ability to work effectively with program volunteers
  • Ability to use office equipment, computers and common software programs

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in an inside warehouse/food pantry setting and associated office area. Occasional time outside and evening and weekend hours may be required.

Physical Demands:

This position requires an above average amount of physical efforts including standing, lifting, and carrying light to moderately heavy products or equipment, up to 50 pounds.

Travel:

May require travel to other agencies/organizations throughout the area.
