Food Service Associate (Cold Food Focus)
This is an opportunity to work for a prestigious Pre-K though 12 private school that offers a good work-life balance and a wealth of job benefits.
The successful candidate in this Food Service Associate position assist primarily with the making of cold food items for the salad bar and helping to serve students during the lunch period. The position reports to the Department Supervisor and is a key support position for the day-to-day operations of the dining unit.
Specific duties include:
  • Follow the daily assignments set by the Supervisor for the weekly lunch menu and special event needs.
  • Prepare cold food items such as salads, vegetables, sandwiches, sliced deli meats and cheeses, condiments and other items as needed, according to standardized recipes. Take and record food temperatures, as necessary.
  • Operate and clean a variety of commercial kitchen equipment, including a meat slicer, a Robocoup food processor, and an oven.
  • Setting up of the lunch service lines and dining area, including stocking it with food and supplies such as silverware, napkins, towels and cleaning supplies.
  • Assist with student lunch service, which includes serving on the hot foods line and backing up food supplies.
  • Break down and cleaning of food serving areas and the dining room spaces, which includes cleaning hot foods serving lines and salad bars, sanitizing work surfaces, etc.
  • Make efficient usage of food to help minimize food wastage.
  • Ensure the correct cooling, dating and storage of left-over food.
  • Lead person for laundering the aprons and towels used in the department.
  • Comply with all state regulatory and ServSafe food safety regulations.
  • Rotate duties with other staff members to learn additional functions and be able to provide back up at any cafeteria unit on campus in staff absences.
  • Must be willing to work occasional evening or weekend special events.
  • Be willing to assist with other departmental functions as they arise, such as assisting in stocking food shelves.
Required Skills:
  • Must possess a service-oriented, personable demeanor and willingness to help others.
  • Good communication, reading and basic computer skills are required
  • Basic experience and knowledge of commercial kitchen cleaning methods and cleaning supplies.
  • Good manual dexterity, ability to stand for long periods of time and ability to lift up to 40 pounds in weight.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
  • A high school graduate, with at least 1 year of experience in working in a large volume commercial foodservice or hospitality services environment. A good understanding of food preparation techniques and safe food handling practices is required. ServSafe certification would be beneficial.
This position is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt, position. Hours are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
