Position Description: Forensic Interviewer
CornerHouse is a Children’s Advocacy Center which provides Forensic and Family Services locally in the Hennepin County, Minnesota area, and reaches nationally and internationally through CornerHouse Training Services.
Position Summary: The Forensic Interviewer is a member of a team of CornerHouse Forensic Interviewers responsible for conducting forensic interviews; presenting training; collaborating with a multidisciplinary team; and promoting safety, justice, and healing for alleged victims of abuse and their families. Reports to: Forensic Interviewing Manager
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Forensic Interviewing
- Conduct forensic interviews of children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults in the context of law enforcement, child protection, or other agency investigations when referred individuals are alleged victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and/or neglect, or witnesses to violence.
- Conduct forensic interviews using The CornerHouse Forensic Interview Protocol™, applying person-centered, forensically sound principles and a trauma-responsive approach, and adjusting to the development and other unique needs of each individual.
- Participate in ongoing professional development including self-reflection, peer review, reading research, and attending continuing education opportunities.
- Complete required documentation, tracking, and record keeping in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collaborate and communicate with CornerHouse team members and multidisciplinary partners including law enforcement, child/adult protection, prosecutors, medical providers, and others.
Training
- Participate in presenting CornerHouse’s various training offerings, including Basic Forensic Interview Training, conference presentations, CornerHouse orientation, community information sessions, and others. Present trainings virtually/online, locally, or with the potential for travel.
- Create presentations and assist with ongoing review, update, and development of training curriculum.
Testifying
- Provide court testimony as a lay and/or expert witness pursuant to subpoena.
- Provide expert testimony when CornerHouse is contracted to provide expert testimony, as assigned.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and preparation necessary for providing effective testimony.
Support and advance the field of forensic interviewing
- Engage in professional writing, research, and other activities.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance.
- Share information to increase understanding of forensic interviewing and of using a multidisciplinary team process.
Contribute to a positive, supportive working environment
- Support tasks of other CornerHouse teams/team members as needed.
- Foster a learning environment for volunteers, interns, coworkers, and multidisciplinary team colleagues.
- Promote a trauma-responsive approach throughout CornerHouse.
- Advance an agency culture of mutual regard, collaboration, and cooperation within and across teams.
- Participate in CornerHouse team meetings, supervision, and inservices; engage in task forces and committees; and assist with CornerHouse events and development activities.
- Engage in high-quality, professional practice reflective of CornerHouse policies and procedures, state and federal statutes, accreditation standards, contractual conditions, and established best practices.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related human services field is preferred. Extensive experience or equivalent education may be considered in lieu of a related master’s degree.
- Professional experience working with children or adolescents who have experienced abuse or violence.
- Understanding of the effects of trauma and of providing trauma-responsive services in a trauma-informed environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills in listening, conveying warmth and regard, and building rapport with children, adolescents and vulnerable adults.
- Patience, flexibility, and ability to adapt and adjust. Includes strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively respond to crisis and manage challenging situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and multidisciplinary team partners, including law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, medical and mental health, advocates, and others.
- Experience working with a diverse array of individuals, including a range of cultural, race and ethnicity, developmental, socio-economic, family structure, and gender representations.
- Recognition of diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential principles of effective service delivery.
- Able to work in a flexible work environment, providing on-site, in-person services at CornerHouse locations as well as working remotely.
- Available, on an occasional basis, to travel regionally, nationally, or internationally.
- Strong communication skills in verbal and written communication, including effectiveness in using a variety of communication methods and comfort in public speaking.
- High standards for integrity, ethical practice, and commitment to ongoing professional growth.
