POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Forensic Interviewer, LSW

Reports To: Executive Director

Schedule: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Worcester County, Maryland

HOURS

Full-time, 40 hours per week, flexible schedule; some evening/weekends required.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Forensic Interviewer has primary responsibility for interviewing children and developmentally delayed adults who are the suspected victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, witness to violence, or drug exposure. The Forensic Interviewer is responsible for active participation on the multi-disciplinary team, high quality written and verbal reporting, and providing testimony in court and legal proceedings.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, or closely related field plus two (2) years of related work experience in any of the following: Child abuse investigations, crime victim advocacy, children and/or youth counseling.
  • Licensed Social Worker, or in the process of completing licensing requirements.
  • Training in one or more nationally-recognized, evidence-based forensic interview models/protocols (NCAC, NICHD, ChildFirst, APSAC, Cornerhouse, BCAC FIT, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience conducting forensic interviews of children in response to allegations of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse; previous experience in a children’s advocacy center or working with a multidisciplinary team preferred.

  • Knowledge of child development; specific stages in cognitive, physical, moral and emotional developmental stages.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and work independently.
  • Must possess high integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Must be able to cope effectively with stressful situations and time constraints and demonstrate critical- thinking skills.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change, and requiring foresight and leadership skills.
  • Must be emotionally prepared, on a daily basis, to interact with child abuse victims and their families in a professional manner.
  • Must possess tact, good judgment, and flexibility.
  • Ability to work as a team member with individuals from a variety of disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with persons from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, clients, co-workers, the staff of member agencies, court officials, and the general public.
  • Maintains technical and practical skills by participation in professional organizations, peer review, and ongoing trainings.
  • Provides in-service, educational and outreach programs for professionals, paraprofessionals, public and private social service agencies and the general public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must possess the ability to comply with The CRICKET Center’s policy and procedures.
  • Must submit to criminal and civil background checks.
  • Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing.
  • May be requested to travel throughout Worcester County on occasion to attend meetings, training, and community events.
  • Must be able to handle stress effectively.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The schedule is based on the needs of the multidisciplinary team; flexibility is required. Evenings, weekends, and/or holiday availability may be necessary.

  • This position is grant funded.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
