Forensic Social Worker Deputy Job at KENTON COUNTY FISCAL COURT
FSW Special Detail, Forensic Social Work Deputy performs work of moderate difficulty and responsibility exercising unique skills in operant and classical conditioning, trauma informed cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies involving the supervision of men and women who are incarcerated at Kenton County Detention Center. FSW Deputies are responsible for the care, custody, and control of adult offenders. Assignments could be in the area of custody, processing, and control or other specialized programs or units. FSW Deputies will also facilitate groups and curriculums in accordance with the KCDC Policy.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Training & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent years of experience in related field of interest is preferred;
- Special Duty FSW Deputy shall complete twelve (12) hours of specialized training in relative fields if interest, and FSW Deputy who provides case management shall complete twelve (12) hours of specialized training in case management, within one (1) year from the effective date of this administrative regulation or within six (6) months from the date of assuming responsibility for that function, whichever is later.

- Ability to analyze safety problems and situations;
- Ability to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances;
- Knowledge of the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations;
- Be alert, have good powers of observation and act quickly and calmly in emergency or dangerous situations;
- Maintain control and order in the facility and while escorting offenders;
- Learn and apply standard policies and procedures of the Kenton County Detention Center;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the general public, courts, attorneys and other related officials;
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors;
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and firm matter to establish and maintain satisfactory public relations;
- Effectively perform duties relative to the area of assignment;
Necessary Special & Physical Requirements
- Standing, lifting, carrying, walking, bending and effectively dealing with offender altercations;
- Must have the strength and agility to allow the employee to perform job duties which would be found at the level of medium work (i.e. exerting 20-50 pounds of force) and including occasional very heavy work (i.e. exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force).
- Must be 21 years or older;
- Must be a United States Citizen;
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State’s driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any State;
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories;
- Must meet the requirements of all applicable KRS and local ordinances;
- Must pass an initial pre-hire physical exam, which will include a drug screen and submit to random drug screens after hire;
- Subject to shift work, extended duty hours, holiday and weekend duty;
- Subject to extensive background investigation;
- Must be able to operate County Government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner;
- Pursuant to the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, all employees must remain drug and alcohol free when reporting to work, while at work and while engaged in any work related activities;
- Based on Federal Regulation 19-10 all positions in this classification are eligible for and will be offered hepatitis vaccinations. In addition, employees will be required to sign a statement stating they have accepted or declined the hepatitis vaccination
Examples of Duties
- Supervises and monitors offender activities and behavior to ensure a safe and controlled environment.
- Ensures a level of personal and health care services that are consistent with that required by law.
- Escorts/transports, monitors and supervise offenders to and from various locations; maintains order and control of offenders and visitors.
- Prepares offenders for court, work release, appointments, etc.
- Accompanies doctors, physician assistants, nurses and other professionals on treatment/medication rounds.
- Implements suicide prevention techniques by making frequent checks of offenders and notifying the proper personnel if necessary.
- Monitors offender behavior and recommends changes to the classification officer.
- Facilitates groups and curriculums in accordance with the KCDC Policy;
- Records participants’ progress in digital and/or hard copy format;
- Assist with implementation of individual offender treatment plan.
- Performs offender visitation duties following all required procedures.
- Maintains, prepares and submits all appropriate logs, reports, files and documentation.
- Updates offender records as data originates and verifies the accuracy of records.
- Issues clothes, shoes, linens and identification arm bands to offenders.
- May be assigned duties of higher or lower classification in this or related class on a temporary or acting basis.
- Responsible for knowing and complying with all Kenton County and Detention Center safety rules.
