The position of Police Officer requires that desired candidate to pass an extensive background check, fitness, medical, physical agility (PAT), drug and psychological testing. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and a college degree is highly desirable. Candidates with full time Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) academy certification and prior public safety experience are strongly preferred, but not required. Starting salary range is $65,430 to start with progression to top step pay of $85,059. Additional compensation is available through shift differential, educational incentive and longevity pay for qualified applicants, as well as through private paid details and overtime assignments. A generous benefits package including but not limited to paid time off and health, vision, dental, disability insurance is provided. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age; must successfully complete a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) full-time police academy or equivalent, in accordance with MGL Chapter 41, Section 96B; possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to acquire a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry Firearms; and maintain POST certification. Those selected must be available to work all shifts for a 24/7 operation, including weekends and holidays; possess strong problem-solving abilities with a high level of integrity, and have effective verbal and written communication skills.
