Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for Fundamentals Training Instructor opportunities for our customer in Richland, WA to support the Waste Treatment Plant at the Hanford Site.

TRNG & PROCEDURE ADMIN II-FUNDAMENTALS TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Located in Southeastern Washington State, on the Hanford reservation. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The WTP project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

This position is located at the WTP Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4x10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.

JOB SUMMARY
Reports to a Training Supervisor and is responsible for execution activities for training of commissioning technicians in fundamental training topics. Trains new personnel on the fundamentals associated with safe operation of the systems they will be responsible to operate and evaluates that training periodically to ensure procedure compliance and proper conduct of operations principles are being utilized.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:
Minimum Requirements per DOE O 426.2:
1. High School (HS) Diploma
AND
2. Have at least 5 years of knowledge and/or expertise consistent with the technical material to be presented (technical experience in operations, maintenance, or related technical position in Naval Nuclear, Department of Energy Nuclear, or Commercial Nuclear Operations preferred)
AND
3. Must have technical training experience as an instructor or can successfully demonstrate knowledge of instructional techniques through basic instructor training.

Preferred candidates will have:
Detailed and extensive experience in teaching science and theory topics in fundamental areas listed below:
  • Mathematics Fundamentals
  • Chemistry Fundamentals
  • Physics Fundamentals
  • Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics Fundamentals
  • Electrical Science Fundamentals
  • Instrumentation and Controls Fundamentals
  • Mechanical Science Fundamentals

Qualifications:
  • Must be able to complete and pass a drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Upon reporting, must be able to complete and pass a medical evaluation for badging purposes. Must have full mobility, be able to walk on uneven or broken surfaces (rocks, gravel, etc.). The examination includes, but is not limited to ability to pass blood pressure test, able to bend, twist, pull, push, climb, and lift more than 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS
Conduct technical training (e.g., classroom), including instruction, exam administration and training effectiveness evaluations:
  • Implement training program in support of qualifying operations, maintenance, laboratory, radiological control, and/or other technical personnel to ensure staff have the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform work safely with competencies commensurate with their responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and communicate between the training organization and other line management or support organizations to ensure training needs are identified and met through effective training.
  • Perform observations and assessments to ensure activities are implemented safely and effectively in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support a strong Nuclear Safety Quality Culture (NSQC) by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work, in order to protect self, others, and the environment.
  • Qualify on the systems, equipment and watch stations prior to conducting OJT training or evaluations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Per Diem Details:
If applicable, mobilization and demobilization expenses (mileage, lodging, and M&IE) are authorized to and from the assignment location if point of origin is more than 50 miles away. Demobilization is authorized only if the assignment is completed per the assignment end date, or Bechtel ends the assignment earlier than specified.

Contract employees are expected to drive their own car to the assignment location. Lodging plus methodology is approved for the settling-in period of the first 30 days or until long-term lodging is occupied, whichever occurs first. For mobilization, demobilization and during the settling-in period all charges, except M&IE per diems, are to be invoiced by the agency to Bechtel with required receipts. After long-term lodging is occupied, or the 30-day period has elapsed, the per diem allowance for lodging, meals and incidental expenses will be no more than 55% of the approved FTR rate. Meals will be expensed via daily entry into myTime time record system. Expense reports including receipts will continue to be required for lodging. Actual lodging costs up to 55% of the approved FTR rate will be reimbursed.

Contract employees on single status assignments of 3 months or more may be granted trips home. Trips are not to exceed a frequency of once every 28 days provided that a minimum of 30 days, from the trip departure date, remain in the assignment. Trips are expected to be scheduled over the weekends and will be on the contract employee’s own time. Up to 3 days of home leave travel expenses will be reimbursed including parking and car rental at home (if own car was driven to project location). M&IE is only paid on travel days. Deviations in home leave schedules require project approval. Reimbursement for travel via common carrier (airline, train, or bus) may not exceed the cost of economy class airfare.
