CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND/ CREDIT CHECKS/MVR: Employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Credit checks may be performed on employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. Due to insurance requirements, employees operating university vehicles must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. An MVR may be performed during the hiring process. All employees who operate university vehicles or who are employed in a sensitive position may be subject to post hire drug screening and random drug-screenings. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications :

Master’s degree in fine arts, art history, or museum studies is preferred, as is experience in a museum or gallery setting.
Responsibilities:
-
Develop, curate, and schedule exhibitions and exhibition-related events for each academic year.

Determine community needs for the gallery program compatible with the mission of Brenau University and the galleries.

Oversee the Collections Policy and the efforts of the Collections Committee for the acquisition of works for the university.

Oversee any advisory committees that assist in the activities of the gallery.

Work with the Arader Academic Coordinator to ensure the use of the Arader Natural History Art Collection for the education of our students and the campus community.

Work with the Office of University Advancement to identify potential funding sources and on grant writing to help support the gallery program.

Attend University, Trustee, and University Advancement events on behalf of the Gallery and Permanent Art Collection.

Provide tours, lectures, and outreach programs to community members and the Brenau community.

Propose, implement, and manage the gallery budget.

Direct physical exhibition needs, including shipping and insurance arrangements, security, gallery maintenance, installation and de-installation of work, wall text, and lighting.

Coordinate with the offices of Marketing and/or Communications for the design, production, and distribution of all gallery-related publicity materials: invitations, flyers, brochures, posters, catalogs, etc.

Oversee gallery correspondence and exhibition inquiries and coordinate exhibition information for wall text, artist information, catalogs, etc.

Direct the placement, storage/handling, and documentation of the Brenau University Permanent Art Collection and the Historic Clothing and Textiles Collections (in coordination with the Collections Manager).

Work with academic departments on campus to facilitate student and faculty use of the Permanent Art Collection, including student research opportunities and Gallery guest lectures.

Respond swiftly to directives related to campus art from the Office of the President.

Serve as the Brenau University Liaison for the High Museum of Art affiliate agreement.

Support and oversee the operations of the Docent Program, including conducting the docent training.

Hire, Train, and Supervise Gallery Assistants and Work Study students.

Enter, maintain, and update Brenau University Permanent Art Collection records in PastPerfect.

Maintain the webpages for the Gallery on the Brenau website.

Perform all other duties as assigned.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Dynamic environment in education setting. Some exposure to outdoors and varying weather conditions may be required.
Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Job requires frequent use of ladders, power tools, and hand tools.
Work Hours:
37.5 hours per week. Generally Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours will be extended to meet the needs of the University, including evening and weekend hours, when necessary.
