In May 2022, the Volkswagen Group announced their plan to grow in America by investing in the revival of the iconic Scout brand and the development of all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs. To this end, a separate, independent company, Scout Motors, was established in the U.S. to design, engineer, and manufacture all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs in America, for American customers

By combining an entrepreneurial spirit with the backing of the Volkswagen Group, Scout Motors will unveil its first prototypes in 2023 and begin production in 2026. The electrified Scout brand will build upon a new technical platform concept which delivers rugged credibility beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio. Scout Motors’ products will combine credible capability, American authenticity, and new American innovation to win in the core of the U.S. market and to win the approval of its brand enthusiasts.

Despite a new Scout not being sold in over 40 years, the Scout community is still as passionate as ever. Scout Motors will build upon this existing enthusiast community and the Scout brand’s legacy to reach new fans.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the all-electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace.

Your rich skills & experience in navigating through complex legal business, social & environmental frameworks will be instrumental in shaping the perception of Scout as a brand, as well as gaining peer admiration in the automotive industry.

The essence of this role is to:

• Present legal advice to Scout Directors, Board Members & other functions
• Develop long-term strategies with senior management to keep Scout’s operations within legal spheres
• Organize licensing or copyright for new products or company branding
• Develop and training a team of legal experts that can provide sound advice across the Scout’s areas of operations, including designing and delivering legal training to the business.
• Assist Scout to navigate into other states with different laws and regulations
• Preparing documents, evidence, arguments and identifying legal precedents that can be used to justify the Scout’s decisions or actions
• Represent the Scout in legal cases that are taken to court
• Keep the company informed and up to date on new laws and regulations that might be applicable to their business
• Provide accurate, relevant, and timely advice to organization and other members of staff on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business sector.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts and agreements.
• Manage and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to Scout.
• Promote legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company.
• Communicate with and manage any third-party bodies such as external counsel or auditors.
• Stay up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect Scout.
• Have intense liaison & collaboration with wider business & sub-functions to ensure regulatory excellence
• Contribute & motivate the legal teams to come up with solution to technical legal challenges
• Manage all third-party contracts with trusted partners to optimize bringing in niche legal skillset
• Manage resources – infrastructure, financial & people, internal collaboration, third-party trusted partners
