General Manager Job at Heartwood Biomass
General Manager for Tuolumne Biomass LLC
a Heartwood company
Opportunity to lead an innovative forest products manufacturing facility in California’s Central Sierra
Reports To: CEO
Location: Tuolumne County, CA
Company Overview
Heartwood is an innovative wood products manufacturer with a business model rooted in directly enabling the expansion of forest restoration in the West. Heartwood finds value in logs that can’t be made into traditional forest products. Working backwards from the otherwise low- value wood removed from our region’s forests during restoration, we seek the highest and best use of each log by building products that we can sell to large, long-term customers, while also creating meaningful jobs, and healthy financial returns.
Heartwood is part of transitioning a rural economy dependent on natural resources from being extractive to restorative. We believe in community and seek to foster respect and trust between its members with the premise that a healthy community means a healthy business.
With one manufacturing facility already operating in Northeastern Oregon, Heartwood will next be building a new facility in Tuolumne County, California, with construction expected to begin in early 2023. The General Manager will be the first hire for the new facility and will play a key role in its startup and operational onboarding.
Desired Outcomes
The General Manager (GM) will be responsible for the financial and operational management of Heartwood Biomass LLC’s new wood products manufacturing facility (Tuolumne Biomass LLC) in Jamestown, CA. The GM will demonstrate effective leadership of approximately 20 employees working across the full facility, with strong competencies in communication and problem-solving that result in sustained performance in safety, productivity, and quality at Tuolumne Biomass. Supported by the management team and Board of Heartwood, the parent company, the GM will develop production and maintenance strategies while ensuring all operations reflect Heartwood’s values. Leading with these values will establish strong operational leadership, foster inclusivity, produce quality products from forest restoration residuals, and deliver strong financial performance.
