Supplemental Information

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life.
Provides coordination for yearly WMA, Refuge and Conservation Area map updates and functions as lead data editor and cartographer. Makes changes to associated online interactive maps and data download websites as changes are made to Department property geospatial features. Assists LDWF Land Acquisition Attorney and other Legal staff relative to disputes, acquisitions and other land transactions. Updates LDWF property boundaries as changes are made. Assists region biologists with marking of LDWF property boundaries. Works with Program Managers to develop geospatial products for hunting season regulations, waterfowl zoning, deer areas, turkey zones, mineral exploration and other relevant activities. Works with biological staff to fulfill various wildlife geospatial needs (presentations, general requests, biological sampling, biological planning, etc.). Maintains competency in latest geospatial software releases such as ArcGIS Pro. Provides geospatial technical support to Office of Wildlife staff.

VACANCY INFORMATION:
This position may be filled as a:
  • Probational Appointment
  • Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected.
This position is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree with twelve semester hours in any combination of GIS or GIS-related courses such as remote sensing, cartography, spatial analysis, mapping science, civil surveying, photogrammetry, CADD (computer aided drafting and design) mapping, aerial photo interpretation, physical geography, web mapping, and/or computer science courses related to geographic information systems plus one year of professional level experience in using geographic information systems.


SUBSTITUTIONS:

Six months of experience (including college undergraduate student work) in digital mapping technology such as GIS, computer cartography, civil CADD, or digital cadastral mapping will substitute for the required twelve semester hours of specialized course work only.


Two years of experience (including college undergraduate student work) in digital mapping technology such as GIS, computer cartography, civil CADD, or digital cadastral mapping will substitute for the required degree and the twelve semester hours of specialized course work.


Graduate training will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of fifteen semester hours with six in specialized course work for six months of experience.


NOTE:

Civil CADD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design) is digital survey mapping for Civil Engineering functions.


NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
