Minimum age of 18. Must possess a minimum of a valid Class "C" driver's license from NC. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Uses computer equipment, GPS software, and GIS software to produce base maps.
- Performs global positioning system data collection and mapping for inventory of manholes, water valves, water meters, sewer lines, storm drains, and street signs.
- Reviews existing maps, plats, files and Record Drawings to confirm locations of existing infrastructure.
- Collect field location data with hand held GPS device on new infrastructure to become part of the Public Utilities System.
- Researches deeds to determine property line, easements and rights-of-way.
- Maintains various filing systems and indexes of maps and plans.
- Updates filing system by inputting information to Microsoft Excel.
- Assist Public Utilities staff with field location of assets using GPS.
- Responds to citizens' questions and comments.
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- After-hours work is required during emergencies, inclement weather and other times as necessary.
- Assists with locating as necessary and takes part in afterhours emergency locate rotation.
- Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of blue print reading.
- Knowledge of surveying methods and practices.
- Skill in the use of GPS and GIS software and techniques.
- Skill in operating standard locating equipment including GPR.
- Skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Skill in using a variety of drafting, engineering, and surveying tools and equipment.
- Skill in operating a computer.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed outdoors in a variety of field conditions. The employee is normally walking, stooping, and squatting on a variety of terrains and occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
SAFETY SENSITIVE: This position has been identified as safety-sensitive. The employee in this position will be part of a random drug testing pool. The methodology for choosing the random test subjects is handled by an outside, impartial, third party vendor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to inclement weather and various types of topography.
