PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Staff Accountant will provide transactional and analytical support. This position is responsible for a variety of accounting duties, including monthly financial reporting and analysis, maintaining strong internal controls, and assisting with various projects.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures, which includes:
  • Preparing monthly ledger entries
  • Reconciling assigned balance sheet accounts
  • Donor analysis, reconciliation, and reporting
  • Inventory analysis and problem resolution
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements; reports and records by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information
  • Generate monthly management reports and ad hoc analysis for various departmental leaders, which includes:
  • Departmental, programs, events, other pertinent reports
  • Performing analysis of actual to budget, investigating, and resolving unusual fluctuations
  • Ensure processes and controls are in place to properly maintain and record assets, including but not limited to cash, inventory, and specifically fixed assets
  • Assist with various government programs, which includes:
  • Preparing monthly reimbursement requests
  • Assisting with program audits
  • Maintain the credit card program, ensuring proper controls exist and transactions are properly recorded
  • Assist with the annual audit, including the preparation of the Form 990 for the organization and affiliates
  • Respond to inquiries; check accounting transactions to locate and resolve discrepancies
  • Backup support for other accounting personnel during planned/unplanned absences
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Navision or similar ERP preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills – managing multiple tasks with great attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – responsive, customer service oriented

Experience:

  • 2-5 years of related work experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Eye strain, repetitive wrist motion and general fatigue from long periods of sitting and working on a computer
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office with open floor plan with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
