Groundskeeper Job at Forsyth Technical Community College
The Groundskeeper maintains the natural environments and outdoor grounds of Forsyth Technical Community College. Creates and maintains safe, clean and inviting campuses for students, employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years in related experience and/or training
- Must obtain pesticide license or acquire license within one year
- Valid Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate Degree in a related field. Note: Higher Ed degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC
- Cut lawns; trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls
- Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged limbs, branches, or twigs
- Spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides; rake and bag leaves
- Clean grounds and remove litter
- Shovel snow from walks and driveways
- Spread salt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup
- Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; water lawn and shrubs
- Repair fences, gates, walls, and walks
- Clean out drainage ditches and culverts
- Sharpen tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, shears, and lawn mower blades
- Make minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment
- Help set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for events and meetings
- Basic computer knowledge to complete training, work orders, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information

- The employee will need to regularly operate and use computers, phones and other electronic equipment

- The employee may need to lift and/or move equipment, tools or paperwork up to 75 pounds
- The employee may need to position themselves by reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching in order to adjust or collect equipment and/or supplies
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
