ROLE SUMMARY
The Out-partnering Group Lead will be responsible for leading the out-partnering team and overseeing the initiation, outreach, diligence, contract negotiation and execution of agreements to partner or externalize development and commercialization rights for existing Pfizer assets and portfolios. The types of transactions could include outlicenses, sales of assets and legal entities, partnerships and co-development for internal assets, business divestitures, assignments and reversions. The transactions could involve pre-clinical and clinical development stage assets, commercialized asset divestitures, businesses within Pfizer, site sales, and reversions of assets related to terminated agreements on a global, multi-national and/or regional basis. In addition, post-closing follow-up of the transition and financial performance of the agreement would require monitoring. The selected individual will be able to support and demonstrate the underlying principles of Pfizer’s WWBD efforts: creativity, collaboration and responsiveness (CCR). The Group Lead will manage 3 direct reports focused on various stages of the out-partnering and out-licensing process.
The Out-partnering Group Lead is expected to be the primary point of contact for all external inquiries regarding out-licensing/partnering interest and to regularly represent Pfizer to external parties. They may be required to represent Pfizer at industry meetings as appropriate, including at forums such as JP Morgan, Bio and other such meetings.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary focus will be on overseeing and leading the execution of out-bounding transactions such as outlicensing, divestiture, and strategic partnering projects that support Pfizer goals. Such transactions could include upfront payments in the form of cash or equity, milestones, royalties or other payments.

Lead and guide the out-partnering team on all aspects of transactions and process

Maintain an updated view of internal prioritized list of assets for out-licensing/partnering

Maintain an updated view of businesses or portfolios potentially in scope for divestiture

Manages all aspects of assigned and approved BD projects including interfacing as necessary with deal team, external parties, attorneys, investment bankers, venture capitalists, consultants and others in order to advance projects to a successful conclusion

Oversees any required economic analyses and construct recommended deal structure, negotiates term sheets and definitive agreements based on those recommendations consistent with Pfizer objectives and legal requirements

Interact with Pfizer management to make recommendations on path forward for potential transaction based on strategies and financial considerations including interactions with BDC, WRD-LT, and therapeutic area leadership

Prepare documents to secure and navigate internal endorsement and approval processes

Develop / maintain strong relationships with cross-functional Pfizer team leaders across organization

Ability to socialize benefits, risks and terms of potential agreements in a concise and clear manner, to solicit input as part of the process, incorporate such input as appropriate and build internal support for the definitive agreement

Enhance the visibility and reputation of Pfizer as a top tier partner and the “Partner of Choice” by participating in industry conferences and industry associations, networking with biopharmaceutical senior executives and business development professionals and through additional actions that support the WWBD CCR initiative

May be assigned to work on inbounding or other types of WWBD transactions as needed based on organizational priorities and resource requirements
QUALIFICATIONS

15+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience within business development functions, with Out-partnering/out-licensing transactions experience preferred

B.S. required, MBA or equivalent preferred.

Familiarity with financial analysis and an understanding of the scientific and commercial aspects of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology business.

Ability to work independently and provide oversight to team. People management experience preferred.

Successful track record of leading / supporting agreements related to the licensing, acquisition or sale of assets and/or businsses

Strong relationship building / collaboration skills with a proven ability to problem-solve
-
Requires ability to influence individuals, both internal and external, over whom one does not have direct control in order to complete required assignments

In depth understanding of the various functional areas of pharmaceutical development, commercialization and operations, the intersection of these areas and the implications of these intersections

A track record of good judgment in evaluating the need to share sensitive/confidential information with prospective buyers and in appropriate communications with prospective buyers

Excellent communication skills and a good business presence with an ability to interact with internal and external Senior Management

Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a results-oriented, project-driven, real-time environment, prioritize projects and deliver quality results within tight time constraints

Demonstrated creativity and solutions oriented approaches in order to develop recommendations and address deal issues which meet the requirements of both parties

Demonstrated understanding of organizational priorities

Experience reviewing legal agreements and providing input into the development of such agreements

Change agile in order to adjust as projects evolve and comfortable with uncertainty

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $199,500.00 to $332,500.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.
Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
