POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Under the direction of the Youth & Family Program Director, all YMCA Gymnastic Instructors will function in such a capacity as part of the YMCA and adhere to all rules and codes of conduct set forth by the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Ability to teach multiple levels (or willingness to learn multiple levels). • Be able to assess gymnasts and their skill level. • Attend trainings and staff meetings.

  • Keep up with rule changes. • Knowledge of routines and assist in teaching them. • Ability to maintain and implement lesson plans for practices. • Responsible to coach one level and/or assist with multiple levels.
  • Act as a positive, self-confident role model for the YMCA. Promote the YMCA through personal example and member interaction. • Advise Supervisor of equipment needs and repairs. • Set up equipment and take down for each class.
  • Start class on time, take attendance, and emphasize safety and proper technique. • Know and follow all YMCA emergency procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Have at least 3 years’ experience in the field of gymnastics-through personal participation.
  • Have teaching experience or gymnastics team experience. • Current CPR and First Aid certification or obtained within 30 days of hire. YMCA COMPETENCIES: • Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Ys values. Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs.
