Handyperson (Residential Program Maintenance) Job at Henry Street Settlement
Job Overview:
- Schedule: 35 hours per week; full time
- Pay: $45,000 annualized; non-exempt
- Location: fully onsite in the Lower East Side
Job Summary:
As the handyperson for our Helen's House program, you will perform a range of maintenance duties in this 16-apartment residential building. Your duties will include plumbing systems, providing repair guidance, cleaning and prepping apartments, and performing repair assessments.
Essential Skills:
- Highschool diploma or equivalent degree required
- 2 years of building maintenance experience
- Want to serve others including your team members and our residents
- Basic knowledge of electrical, painting, plumbing, and locksmithing
- Passion for fixing things and problem solving

Candidates must obtain their F80 and S95 license within 90 days of hire.
Must have basic computer skills, be able to track work orders, and inventory

In this role a day with us looks like:
- Arrive on site and address any immediate needs: broken door, plumbing clog, lack of heat or cooling, etc.
- Prioritize the work orders from the day before
- Check on the boilers and perform an all-around building check
- Coordinate with program and supervisory team to schedule and perform repairs in residential areas
- Assist with program inventory and maintain records of program maintenance supplies
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Ability to work onsite in the Lower East Side
- Ability to climb stairs, stand for long periods of time, sit, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment
Education
Required- High School or better
