Responsibilities:
Directs actions necessary to recruit, retain, and educate staff , inclusive of departmental meetings and in-service education.- Provides direction and leadership to hospital interdisciplinary team as necessary to carry out departmental and organizational goals for timely, accurate and complete medical records, with focus on core IRF documentation requirements ie: IOPC completion).
- Monitors transcription services, to ensure quality and timeliness of information. Reports variations to management team.
- Participates in contingency plan and procedures to facilitate ongoing records managed in the event of downtime.
- Coordinates, conducts and monitors specific activities related to timely chart completion procedures, statistics, ongoing record reviews, and FFPE/OPPE with the provision of feedback to respective staff, interdisciplinary departments, and medical staff committees.
- Coordinates and monitors release of information to ensure compliance to applicable statutes and regulations governing the release of health information.
- Directs department within the scope of the operating budget/business plan and maintains necessary controls to ensure compliance with budgeted expenses, resources and staff.
- Ensures appropriate processes for maintaining current appointments, reappointments and changes in Medical Staff privileges and delineations.
- Coordinates completion of credential files for each member of the Medical Staff and applicable non-physician individuals with delineated practice responsibilities.
- Maintains all medical staff credential files and related peer review activities with strict confidentiality. Ensures continuous review and updating of credential files regarding current licensure and certification, verification of data bank and other requirements. Maintains accurate and complete credentialing files in accordance with Bylaws, JCAHO, CMS, state and other requirements. Prepares credential files and other credentialing data for Medical Executive Committee and Governing Board review. Maintains regular communication with Credentialing Verification Organization (CVO) to obtain updated credentialing information, if applicable.
Minimum requirements:
- Requires an Associate’s degree in a health care related field, or two years or more experience in a Health Information and/or Credentialing role in lieu of education
- Requires Current credentials as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or RHIT-eligible status, Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or RHIA-eligible status, as required by state regulation.
- Working knowledge of medical staff organization and credentialing activities are needed.
