Responsibilities:
In the role of Safety Specialist we’ll count on you to:
- Systematically assess HDR project safety for site conditions and contract requirements
- Determine applicable US Federal (i.e., EPA, OSHA, DoD) and/or State safety rules and regulations as they apply to HDR projects and ensure that they are implemented
- Develop Project-Specific SH&E Management Systems based upon the HDR Corporate SH&E program, incorporating the areas of SH&E planning, implementation and operation, corrective actions, and an effective management review process to determine the suitability and effectiveness of the Safety Management System.
- Provide HDR Project/Construction Managers and field staff with direction and oversight as required to ensure compliance with program/project contractual obligations and HDR safety requirements.
- Support Construction & Project Managers in the performance of all SH&E related work activities, including the development and implementation of HDR project specific Safety Plans and the assessment of regular and non-routine work assignments and responsibilities.
- Conduct formal safety training for HDR staff in the field and as needed.
- Ensure that scheduled safety compliance inspections are completed in an effective and timely manner, including the follow-up and corrective/preventive actions
- Ensure SH&E compliance records are organized and maintained per applicable regulations
Additional safety duties as assigned by the NYC Senior Project Safety Manager and the HDR North East Area Manager.

Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in Safety and Occupational Health, Environmental Engineering (or Management) or other similar field of study with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing large SH&E construction program/projects or 10 years of relevant EHS field and management experience may be used in lieu of a degree.
- Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional (CESCP) Certification required or able to obtain within 6 months of start date.
- Possess a strong understanding of operation and construction related activities associated with large Construction Projects
- Working knowledge of US Federal EPA, OSHA, and DoT regulations, as well as State and local regulations and requirements.
- Possess current OSHA construction outreach trainer certification preferred.
- Excellent verbal & written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and application of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software
- Team-oriented with proven oral and written skills to support company SH&E policy and procedural requirements
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- CHST certification preferred
- Previous NYCDEP Construction Management experience with construction and/or A&E firms desirable.
- Thorough understanding of the NYCDEP BEDC SOP’s for Construction Safety Management
- Candidates who reside locally are preferred.

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $71,313 – $101,875 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
