Librarian

As an educational leader in the school, the librarian creates an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive. The school librarian is an excellent communicator who instills enthusiasm in others by making them feel that they are important members of an educational team. The librarian will develop an environment of creativity, innovation, and collaboration.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in library sciences or library/information studies from an accredited institution
• Strong commitment to Catholic school education
• Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills
• Excellent technological skills and ability to learn and become proficient in different computer programs
• Experience in secondary education

10 Month Position

Responsibilities:

Educational Leader:

• Shares educational expertise, best practices in research, educational technology and technological applications through presentations at faculty meetings, departmental meetings, and parent meetings as requested/directed
• Creates an environment in the library that promotes collaboration in instruction and student driven learning
• Develops and shares procedures and policies, including acceptable use and copyright, for choosing media and course materials.
• Develops and teaches lessons for best practices in the research process and the use educational technology in classrooms to improve learning; works with faculty members to provide instruction in the research process using resources available; works collaboratively with teachers on project development
• Develops project based learning initiatives with teachers and promotes design thinking principles in educational practices
• Provide guidance and educational support to students in using and understanding information, technological skills, and research
• Participate in educational planning and curricular development as related to accreditation and strategic planning goals
• Maintains memberships in professional organizations; remain current in professional practice guiding school libraries
• Serve as a faculty resource for incorporating technology into lesson planning
• Serve as a Google Expert to offer assistance to both students and faculty

Information Specialist:

• Selects, evaluates, and organizes the information resources and technology in all formats
• Maintains a collection of library resources that are appropriate and used within the school curriculum
• Established procedures for selection, acquisition, and circulation of materials
• Manages the online library database
• Manages the membership and affiliation with all of the online databases; provides guidance in selection of databases
• Organizes the school’s collection to maximize instructional use
• Prepares the library budget to support the school’s educational goals

General:

• Supervise the library assistant and direct any faculty who are assigned library duty
• Maintain order and develop student rules and procedures for the library
• Maintain the physical space of the library which would include light cleaning and organizing materials and furniture
• Maintain the organization of the CCHS archives
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Open the library at 7:30 am and remain on campus until 3 pm
