About SANE

Safer Alternatives thru Networking and Education (SANE) is a nonprofit harm reduction agency located in Sacramento, CA. Our services include a needs-based Syringe Exchange Program, distribution of safer sex supplies, HIV & HCV education and referral, overdose prevention education, outreach to people experiencing homelessness, and a low barrier Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. SANE employs in all its efforts the principles of humanism, harm reduction, respect for human rights, and dignity.

Job Description & Essential Duties

This position is for SANE's Water Team whose duties are to deliver potable water to homeless encampments around Sacramento County. Duties include picking up water supply from distributor, driving & navigating delivery truck (U-Haul or similar), mapping and keeping track of encampment routes, communicating & collaborating with person's experiencing homelessness, collaborating with other SANE departments to ensure service delivery, lifting cases of water for transport, and working with a designated Water Team partner. Each case of water consists of six 1 gallon bottles weighing approximately 50lbs per case. We lift anywhere between 15,000lbs to 25,000lbs per day of work.

Qualifications:

* Must have current CA Driver's License & clean driving record

* Must show proof of up to date COVID-19 vaccination

* Must be able to lift and carry bottled water (up to 50lbs) repetitively

* Must be comfortable working with persons experiencing homelessness in a non-judgmental way, and entering homeless encampments

* Ability to create and maintain and environment where client feels heard & respected

* Ability to work as part of a team using critical thinking and problem solving

* Organizational skills to establish priorities and to maintain work effectiveness

* Ability to follow instructions, and complete work in a timely manner

* Have a participants-first attitude

* Ability to actively listen to our participants and write down any requests

* Detail oriented and accurate location reporting

* Must have first hand knowledge of street-based living

Education: High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

* Harm reduction/syringe service program and or working with people who are unhoused : 3 years (Preferred)

* Has street-based living experience, (homelessness, former substance-use) (Preferred)

* License/Certification: Driver's License (Required)

* Work Location: Multiple Locations
